How booming E-commerce businesses helping logistics players
Setting up an e-commerce store is neither very hard nor very expensive and it is understood that if anyone is not not ready to take up the task of setting up an independent e-store, which involves quite a bit of task, then there are many online services that you can use to create your own branded store.

Of course, you would have to pay a fee for these services, but most of them offer free trials. With online store providers, you get access to great templates and designs, payment processing systems and technical support. All of this means you can start your store almost immediately, without having to worry about the technicalities or hiring a coder or a designer. You can use your own website address, that is domain, to build a brand and establish yourself as a reputed retailer. But at the end of the day it all comes down to delivery of products that your customers buy; those products that they require in a given amount of time in a proper and safe packaged solution. Delivering the product to the customer on time is a big challenge for virtual stores. Though online stores can use courier companies for delivering their product to customers, there are specialist companies that handle logistics and product delivery for e-commerce. Using such specialist logistics providers means the entreprenuers can also use their services to offer cash on delivery, which is a preferred payment mode in India across many tier-1 and tier 2 cities, as well as collect the product from customers in case of returns.

How will the future look for logistics players in Indian market

The biggest and most vital part of logistics in today's digital age is the tracking and the Supply Chain Systems, that allow easy and seamless integration with the e-commerce partner’s Order Management systems that unlock customer experience and business potential at various touchpoints such as order tracking, customer notifications, reporting and analysis, billing and many more benefits. But since this industry has been quite mercurial since the beginning, using private courier and logistics companies has one major limitation-reach. Most of these would be unable to deliver products to small cities and villages which automatically puts them in a disadvantageous state. Whereas India's postal service is also being used by some online stores, which goes across all the nooks and corners. For example, similar to mail-order businesses that operated before e-commerce picked up and became such a big phenomena, there existed and still mildly present Value Payable Post (VPP), which is the cash-on-delivery equivalent service offered by India Post. According to several media reports published in April 2013, India Post is exploring the option of providing specialised logistics solutions for e-commerce. If the postal department can start such a service successfully, online stores would be able to service a large number of customers living in remote areas of the country which will be huge benefactor for many players as well as consumers. India is a growing with its internet users base and soon most of the shopping and selling will require a lot of e-commerce and logistics tool. But there are many options to be explored and improved as well as enhanced, such as payment options, security options and variety of user experiences when it comes to shopping and selling online and using e-commerce logistics. In more developed countries and those countries which have experienced e-commerce since long time have players that are some of the biggest lessons and teachers for Indian players. Their establishement and their performance over the years have catapulted them to such heights that it is commendable and some of those players are DHL, and FedEx.

Current scenario and players in the market of logistics for e-commerce

One such player is ekart, which is a brain child of Flipkart, and it is an e-retail logistics service that offers rapid, reliable and time definite delivery services across India. This has special significance since Flipkart launched its marketplace, which means that other sellers, as in other online stores can also employ eKart to ship their orders. Their services are proclaimed to be seamlessly connecting the store and the customers with their original, advanced and made-to-order approach to e-commerce delivery. The technology focus lately has been expected to give the customers as well as managers the higher visibility and transparency in terms of tracking and delivery of the product ordered. Another such players in India are Delhivery.com and Chhotu.in, and they are the two providers of logistics services to e-commerce stores in India. In addition, seeing the arrival and market presence, DTDC Courier & Cargo has also launched DotZot.in, which is a service exclusively for e-retail.
