Bottled water is drinking water which can be either well water, distilled water, Mineral water, or spring water packaged in plastic or glass water bottles. Bottled water may or may not be carbonated and the sizes of the bottles range from small single serving bottles to a large bottles used for water coolers.  

Bottled water are mostly stored as part of an emergency kit in case of natural disaster. The water stored in the factory-containers has an indefinite shelf life, as long as they remain unopened and undamaged. 

Advantages of Bottled water 

Bottled water is available in many different places such as local market shops, large chain grocery stores and convenience stores. Bottled water is readily available in many different brands.

Brands of bottled water undergo a purification process. As per the study, out of 57 brands, 39 brands of bottled water has proved to be purer than tap water as they did not contain bacteria which was found in tap water from the general public water supply. 

Disadvantages of Bottled water  

Producing bottled water and disposing of the bottles will harm the environment. Bottled water is far more expensive than tap water or a reusable water filter and study’s also say that bottled water is healthier compared to tap water.

 As per the reports, the global bottled water industry has become very profitable. Huge multinational companies are making billions of dollars on water that they extract from the ground, slap a label on and sell at competitive prices. Examples of these companies include: Aquafina, Dasani, Perrier, Evian, and Fiji Water etc.

According to the reports, in India, the domestic bottled water market including organised and unorganised players is estimated at Rs 8,000 crore, and expected to grow to Rs 10,000 crore by 2013 and the bottled water market which has been growing at a CAGR of 19%, is expected to continue its growth momentum and grow over four-folds to Rs 36,000 crore by 2020.
