Ghana, officially called the Republic of Ghana, is a sovereign state and unitary presidential constitutional republic, located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in West Africa. The country is bordered by the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, Togo in the east and the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the south.
Ghana had estimated population of 27.573 million in the year 2016 and expected to reach 32.082 million by 2022. Which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.56%.
Ghana’s real gross domestic product (GDP) was around GHS 36.242 billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP was GHS 169.216 billions. This resulted in GDP deflator 466.901. Per capita GDP was estimated at USD 1569.04 whereas purchasing power parity (PPP) based per capita GDP was estimated to be at USD 4411.93.
In 2016, Ghana government’s revenue was GHS 28.865 billions whereas the expenditure was GHS 42.92 billions. This resulted Ghana government’s net lending / borrowing negative at GHS 14.055 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial resources were not made available by the government to boost economic growth.
The current account balance for Ghana was estimated to be negative at USD 2.784 billions for the year 2016 and is expected to decrease at a CAGR of 1.33% and reach USD 2.615 by 2022. This negative current account balance indicates the Ghana is net borrower to the whole world.
