The state shares its only land border with Northern Ireland, one of the constituent countries of the United Kingdom. Politically Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Republic of Ireland covers almost 5/6th of the island and the remaining is Northern Ireland which is a part of the UK.
