نظرة عامة

Scope of the Report

The global Celery Oil market size is predicted to grow from US$ 719 million in 2025 to US$ 1,045 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.6% from 2026 to 2032.

Global celery oil sales reached 57,080 tons in 2025, with an average price of US$12,866 per ton.

Celery oil is a pale yellow to yellowish-brown volatile essential oil extracted by steam distillation from the dried, mature seeds of *Apium graveolens* L., a plant in the Apiaceae family. It is a clear, transparent, pale yellow to greenish-brown liquid with good fluidity at room temperature. It has a strong, lasting spicy and herbal aroma, with a sweet taste mixed with a hint of spiciness. The main active ingredients are limonene (58-78%), β-selinene (8-30%), 3-n-butylphthalide (0.5-11%), sedanolide (2-20%), and sedanenolide (0.5-10%), etc.

The supply of raw materials for celery oil is highly seasonal and labor-intensive. Globally, approximately 60% of the raw materials come from India (Punjab and Uttar Pradesh) and the Mediterranean region (France and Greece), where the climate (cool, humid, and well-drained) is ideal for celery seed production. Raw material costs account for 45-55% of the total cost. Since celery is a biennial plant, it takes 18-24 months from sowing to harvest, resulting in a long growth cycle and significant land occupation. Furthermore, after the seeds mature, manual harvesting, threshing, drying, and screening are required, with labor costs accounting for as much as 25-30%. Processing costs account for approximately 20-25%. While steam distillation is a mature process, the yield is low (only 2.0%-2.5%), requiring approximately 40-50 kg of dry seeds to extract 1 kg of essential oil. The distillation process is also extremely time-consuming (typically 10-12 hours per batch), with significantly higher energy consumption than for general essential oils. It is worth noting that seed pretreatment (flaking rather than grinding) can improve yield and prevent still clogging, but it increases equipment investment. Quality control and testing costs account for 10-15% of the total cost. GC-MS is required to ensure limonene content is within a reasonable range (58-78%) and to test the proportion of phthalides to guarantee characteristic aroma and efficacy. Overall, celery seed oil is a mid-to-high-priced specialty essential oil with a long production cycle and demanding processing requirements. Its cost structure is constrained by multiple factors, including agricultural production cycles, labor costs, and energy costs.
