نظرة عامة

Scope of the Report

The global Animal Free Medium market size is predicted to grow from US$ 806 million in 2025 to US$ 1,331 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.3% from 2026 to 2032.

Global sales of animal-free medium reached 4,819 kiloliters in 2025, with an average price of US$171 per liter.

Animal component-free medium (ACFM or ADCF) refers to a product or its primary and secondary raw materials that do not use any components directly derived from animal (including human) tissues or body fluids; however, the use of plant, microbial, or recombinant (non-animal cell expression) proteins as functional substitutes is permitted.

The main raw materials are plant or microbial hydrolysates (soybean, wheat, yeast peptides, accounting for 12–15% of the cost), recombinant insulin/transferrin/albumin (yeast or E. coli expression, accounting for 20–25%), synthetic lipids and steroids (accounting for 8–10%), and trace elements, buffer salts, and other bulk chemicals (accounting for 15%). Because animal blood collection, serum grading, and virus inactivation are eliminated, upstream raw material prices are relatively stable. However, recombinant proteins still rely on high-density fermentation and multi-step purification; their production capacity and yield determine the overall cost. Domestic supply chains have already replaced over 60% of imports for rInsulin and rHSA, resulting in an average price reduction of approximately 15% in 2025 compared to 2022. The key bottleneck lies in the batch scale-up of recombinant transferrin and plant-derived hydrolysates, accounting for 30-35% of material costs and representing the next key area for cost reduction.

Global key Animal Free Medium players cover Thermo Fisher, Merck KGaA, Corning, Cytiva, Lonza, etc.
