Scope of the Report
PVDF membrane (polyvinylidene fluoride) is a commonly used solid support in Western blotting. PVDF is essentially a hydrophobic polymer and will not wet in aqueous solutions. In order to use PVDF membranes in aqueous buffers and systems, it must first be soaked in alcohol at a concentration of 50% (v/v) or higher. in solution. (PVDF membranes need to be pre-treated before use. The purpose of treating with methanol is to activate the positively charged groups on the membrane, making it easier to combine with negatively charged proteins.) Methanol, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol are all suitable for soaking this membrane. Complete wetout is evident as the film changes in appearance from opaque to translucent. It must then be rinsed repeatedly with water to remove the alcohol, and the pretreated membrane can be placed directly into transfer buffer to equilibrate.
Global key PVDF Transfer Film players cover Thermo Fisher Scientific, Merck, Arkema, Solvay, Kureha Corporation, etc.
