Scope of the Report

The global BBU Backup Power Supply market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1,177 million in 2025 to US$ 2,453 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.3% from 2026 to 2032.

BBU backup power supply is an integrated backup power supply device that quickly provides short-term power support to equipment in the event of a main power interruption, voltage drop, or instantaneous load fluctuation. It usually consists of lithium-ion batteries or lithium iron phosphate batteries, battery management systems, bidirectional DC conversion modules, control and communication units, protection circuits, and structural components. It can be deployed inside servers, power racks, storage devices, communication equipment, or industrial control systems. The main function of BBU is to complete power switching in milliseconds, maintain device running time of seconds to minutes, enable the system to complete data saving, cache writing, secure shutdown, or wait for higher-level backup power to take over, thereby avoiding data loss, device shutdown, and hardware damage. Data center rack level BBUs are typically connected to power racks and DC busbars to provide distributed backup power for computing loads, while storage and RAID BBUs are mainly used to protect cached data. There are significant differences in power, capacity, and structure between the two.

The BBU backup power market is upgrading from traditional storage cache protection and communication equipment backup to AI servers, data center rack level high-power backup, and power fluctuation regulation. The GPU and accelerator loads in AI servers have the characteristics of high power density and rapid instantaneous changes. Traditional centralized UPS is far away from the load, making it difficult to fully cover short-term voltage fluctuations and fast power surges. Therefore, deploying BBUs near servers or racks can shorten the power supply path, improve switching speed, and enhance power supply reliability. 48V lithium-ion BBU is gradually replacing some traditional lead-acid backup power systems and developing towards higher voltage, higher power, modularity, intelligent monitoring, and liquid cooling adaptation. The future market growth will mainly be driven by the construction of AI computing infrastructure, the increase of server rack power, the promotion of Open Rack architecture, and the demand for improving power efficiency and availability in data centers. The focus of product competition will be on power density, switching time, charging and discharging efficiency, cycle life, thermal management, condition monitoring, and system security. BBU can simultaneously undertake short-term peak power compensation and voltage stability functions, gradually upgrading it from a simple backup device to a dynamic energy storage node in the data center power architecture. However, the industry still faces issues such as cell safety, thermal runaway protection, inconsistent system standards, long customer certification cycles, and high costs of high-power products. Enterprises with capabilities in battery cell selection, battery management, bidirectional power conversion, rack system integration, and large-scale automated manufacturing are more likely to gain advantages in the high-end BBU market of AI data centers.
