Scope of the Report

The global Viscose Filament Yarns market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1,814 million in 2025 to US$ 2,245 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.1% from 2026 to 2032.

Viscose filament yarn VFY is a natural yarn made from wood pulp or cotton pulp. It is obtained from nature and so is a natural product (not synthetics).Viscose filament yarn is also known as Rayon Yarn OR Rayon Filament Yarn. Owing to the silky appearance and feel VFY can be used to make the fabrics for clothing and home textiles. Due to feature of ability breather and absorb liquid, it can be used in making soft, smooth fabric for clothing. In 2024, global Viscose Filament Yarns production reached approximately 256 K MT, with an average global market price of around US$ 6682 per MT.

The viscose filament yarn (VFY) market is mainly driven by the growth of textiles and apparel—especially in regions where fine, silk-like fabrics are popular—and by the broader push toward more “natural” or cellulosic-based fibers. VFY offers high luster, a soft hand, good drape, and strong dyeability at a fraction of silk’s cost, so it is widely used in sarees and other traditional garments, dresses, linings, scarves, lingerie, embroidery threads, and premium home textiles such as curtains and upholstery; as textile production expands in Asia and consumers in many markets trade up to more refined fabrics, this directly pulls demand for viscose filament. At the same time, brands and retailers are under pressure to reduce reliance on fossil-based synthetics like polyester and to market eco-friendlier collections, so viscose—including filament grades—benefits from being a regenerated cellulose fiber derived from renewable biomass, with emerging product lines based on certified wood and, increasingly, recycled textile pulp.

Upstream, VFY producers are tightly linked to the dissolving wood pulp industry and to a set of energy- and chemical-intensive process inputs. The core feedstock is high-purity cellulose pulp, traditionally from hardwood plantations (eucalyptus, beech, etc.) and cotton linters and increasingly from bamboo or recycled textile pulp, which must meet strict purity and viscosity specifications to spin uniform, high-quality filaments; this ties VFY economics to forestry practices, land-use policy, certification requirements around deforestation and biodiversity, and price cycles for dissolving pulp. The viscose process itself depends heavily on caustic soda, carbon disulfide, sulfuric acid and other sulfur chemicals, plus substantial steam and electricity and capital-intensive effluent and emission control systems, so shifts in chlor-alkali capacity, energy prices, and environmental regulations on sulfur emissions or wastewater treatment feed quickly into costs; in response, some producers are integrating backward into pulp, securing long-term supply contracts, and investing in cleaner technologies and next-generation pulps to stabilize their upstream position.

Overall, the viscose filament yarn industry tends to earn moderate gross profit margins in roughly the low- to mid-teens percentage range, with integrated or specialty-focused producers sometimes reaching high-teens margins when pulp and energy costs are favorable.
