Scope of the Report

The global Kraft Papers market size is predicted to grow from US$ 12,916 million in 2025 to US$ 17,021 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.0% from 2026 to 2032.

Kraft papers are high-strength paper grades produced mainly from kraft pulp, virgin fiber, recycled fiber or mixed fiber through forming, pressing, drying and finishing processes on paper machines. The kraft pulping process gives the paper strong fiber bonding, high tensile strength, tear resistance, burst strength and good converting performance. Kraft papers are usually supplied in reels or sheets, with common grades including natural brown kraft, bleached kraft, sack kraft, wrapping kraft, MG kraft, MF kraft, smooth-finished kraft, extensible kraft and specialty kraft papers. Depending on fiber source, surface finish, basis weight and end-use requirements, they can be used for industrial sacks, shopping bags, food packaging, wrapping, envelopes, flexible packaging, coating and laminating base papers, release base papers, protective interleaving, e-commerce packaging and other packaging or industrial conversion applications.

In 2025, global kraft papers production reached approximately 13 million tons, with an average global market price is $1,000 per ton.

From a global industry perspective, kraft papers have evolved from traditional industrial packaging papers into a broader material platform supporting paper-based packaging upgrades and plastic substitution. Industrial demand remains anchored in heavy-duty packaging for cement, building materials, chemicals, minerals, animal feed, fertilizers and similar bulk goods, where load-bearing strength, breakage resistance and high-speed converting or filling performance are essential. On the consumer side, demand is increasingly supported by takeaway food, retail paper bags, e-commerce delivery, branded packaging and sustainability-oriented packaging, where printability, appearance, food-contact suitability and converting efficiency are more important. Because kraft paper combines strength, recyclability, coatability and cost efficiency, its role in packaging is expanding beyond ordinary paper bags toward functional flexible packaging, barrier paper, heat-sealable paper and lower-plastic composite packaging.

In terms of industry trends, kraft papers are moving toward higher strength at lower grammage, lightweighting, recyclability, reduced-plastic structures, functionalization and specialty applications. Traditional applications often relied on higher basis weight or multi-ply structures to achieve strength, while current development places more emphasis on fibre optimization, refining control, extensible treatment, surface finishing, barrier coating and lamination technology to improve performance per unit weight. At the same time, food-grade performance, grease resistance, moisture resistance, heat sealability, recyclable barrier functions, low odor, low migration and improved printability are becoming key product-upgrade directions. For industrial packaging, competition is increasingly based on strength, elongation, porosity, TEA energy absorption, machine runnability and total packaging cost; for consumer packaging, the focus is shifting toward appearance, sustainability image, brand communication, food safety and downstream converting compatibility.

The main growth drivers come from three areas. First, the global packaging industry is shifting toward paper-based, recyclable and lower-plastic solutions, supporting the use of kraft papers as alternatives to plastic bags, plastic films, selected flexible laminates and conventional packaging materials. Second, the continued movement of industrial goods, food products, retail goods, e-commerce parcels and consumer products creates sustained demand for packaging papers that balance strength, cost efficiency and processing adaptability. Third, environmental regulation, brand plastic-reduction targets and circular-economy requirements are encouraging paper producers and packaging converters to develop lighter, stronger, more recyclable and more functional kraft paper products.
