نظرة عامة

Scope of the Report

The global Camphor Oil market size is predicted to grow from US$ 315 million in 2025 to US$ 411 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.6% from 2026 to 2032.

Global camphor oil sales reached 17 K tons in 2025, with an average price of US$18,325 per ton.

Camphor oil is the oil extracted from the wood of camphor trees and processed by steam distillation. It can be used topically to relieve pain, irritation, and itching. Camphor is also used to relieve chest congestion and inflammatory conditions. It has a strong odor and taste and is easily absorbed through the skin.

The supply of camphor oil raw materials is significantly dependent on wild resources and geographically concentrated. Globally, approximately 70% of production comes from southern China (Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, etc.) and Japan. These subtropical climate zones (warm, humid, and well-drained) are ideal for camphor tree growth and result in abundant camphor accumulation. Raw material costs account for 45-55% of the total cost. While camphor trees are perennial trees (50+ years old yields the most), requiring no annual planting investment, raw material acquisition is strictly limited by forestry resource management policies. Furthermore, the extraction rate is moderate (1.6%-2.4%), requiring approximately 40-60 kg of dried branches and leaves to extract 1 kg of camphor oil, and harvesting must be done during a specific season (September-December). Labor costs account for 20-25% (felling, collection, slicing, etc.). Processing costs account for approximately 25-30%. Steam distillation is a mature process, but it requires specialized distillation equipment and a condensation system, resulting in high energy consumption. It's worth noting that crude camphor oil can be fractionated to extract white camphor oil (boiling point 160-185℃, containing 30% eucalyptol), red camphor oil, and blue camphor oil. The added value of products from different distillation stages varies significantly—white camphor oil is used in pharmaceuticals and fragrances, and its price is higher than crude oil. Quality control and testing costs account for 10-15%. GC-MS is required to ensure camphor content (35%-50%) and the proportions of eucalyptol and safrole, and to detect harmful components such as safrole (due to its potential carcinogenicity, some countries restrict its use). Overall, camphor oil is a low-to-medium priced, resource-dependent, and widely used natural essential oil. Its cost structure is influenced by multiple factors, including the sustainability of wild camphor tree resources, labor costs, and the depth of fractionation processing. With advancements in synthetic camphor (using turpentine as a raw material), natural camphor oil is facing price competition, but it remains irreplaceable in the pharmaceutical, high-end fragrance, and organic agriculture sectors.
