Scope of the Report

The global Elevator Wire Rope market size is predicted to grow from US$ 457 million in 2025 to US$ 574 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.3% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2025, global elevator wire rope production reached approximately 25952 k meters, the average price is 18 usd/meter. Elevator wire rope is a special type of wire rope used in the suspension and drive system of traction elevators. One end is attached to the car, the other end to the counterweight, and the traction sheave is in the middle, relying on friction for transmission. Modern machine-room-less and small machine-room elevators also use double-wound ropes to increase the wrap angle. Structurally, the mainstream type is 8×19S+FC fiber core or 8×19S+IWRC steel core. The inner strand uses a Warin Thunseru composite twisting method to make the outer steel wire thicker and more wear-resistant, while the inner filaments are finer and more fatigue-resistant. The rope diameter is commonly 8 to 13 mm. The breaking tensile strength is in accordance with GB 8903 or EN 12385 standards, and must meet a safety factor of twelve times the minimum breaking load and a bending fatigue life of tens of millions of cycles. In ultra-high-speed sections, compacted strands or plastic-coated carbon fiber composite ropes are used to reduce weight and noise.

Market Concentration and Major Players:

Internationally, the elevator wire rope market is highly concentrated, mainly in developed countries such as Europe and the United States. Large manufacturers include Gustav Wolf and Bekaert. Domestically, the elevator wire rope market still has significant room for growth.

Manufacturing Process and Market Trends:

The main manufacturing process for elevator wire rope involves cold-drawing, heat-treating, galvanizing, and twisting high-carbon wire rods. Pre-plating ensures uniform coating, while post-plating removes a thick zinc layer to resist corrosion. The mainstream elevator side lock uses an 8×19S+FC fiber core structure, while ultra-high-speed sections use a 12+8+1×19S large-diameter compacted strand with a steel core. Pre-tensioning and grease infiltration enhance structural stability and fatigue life. Plastic coating and DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating represent high-end incremental growth. The global market is dominated by five companies: Tokyo Steel, Gustav Wolf, Saifutian, Brugg, and Korea Steel, accounting for 40% of the market share. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 65% of the production capacity. In the OE (Outer Elevator) segment, several elevator manufacturers, including Otis, Schindler, Kone, Mitsubishi, and Hitachi, have secured contracts. Kobe Steel's HybridRope carbon fiber composite rope, which reduces weight by 40%, has secured contracts for a 1,000-meter-class super high-rise building in Dubai. The 0.6 mm micro-diameter rope on the magnetic levitation side has been tested 100,000 times without failure. IoT embedded wire and predictive maintenance have created a premium in the high-end maintenance segment in Europe. Cordless magnetic levitation and composite rope are long-term variables, but in the short term, replacing existing coils is more stable than new elevators. In the domestic Guizhou Rope & Farsun elevator segment above 300 meters, foreign companies still hold a dominant position.
