Scope of the Report

The global Silicon Carbide Grinding Papers market size is predicted to grow from US$ 357 million in 2025 to US$ 563 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.7% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2025, global silicon carbide gringding paper production reached approximately 2610 k sqm, the average price is 140 usd/sqm. Silicon carbide gringding paper is a type of coated abrasive. It uses water-resistant paper, latex paper, or high-strength polyester film as the base material and synthetic resin or polymer adhesive as the binder to firmly adhere micron/nano-sized silicon carbide abrasive to the base material surface. The abrasive is then dried and cut.

Market Concentration and Major Players:

Internationally, the silicon carbide abrasive paper market is highly concentrated, primarily in developed countries in Europe and America. Large manufacturers include Buehler and Struers. Domestically, however, there is still significant room for growth in the silicon carbide abrasive paper market.

Manufacturing Process and Market Trends:

The manufacturing of silicon carbide abrasive paper essentially follows a coated abrasive process. First, a water-resistant paper or polyester film substrate is impregnated for toughening and softening. Then, a synthetic resin primer is rolled onto the substrate. Gradient silicon carbide abrasive particles are then oriented onto the primer surface using gravity or electrostatic abrasive application. A second layer of resin binder is then applied, followed by a temperature-controlled drying oven for complete curing. Finally, the paper undergoes mechanical bending, cooling, and is cut to length or re-backed with self-adhesive materials for roll packaging. The cutting force and water resistance of the entire production line depend on the abrasive particle gradation, abrasive density, and resin cross-linking degree.

Globally, demand is shifting towards finer mesh, more uniform sanding, and longer-lasting anti-clogging formulations as high-end manufacturing precision increases. Substrates and adhesive layers are continuously upgrading towards water-resistant, high-elasticity latex paper and film composites. Meanwhile, automated grinding and robotic workstations are driving the standardization of rolls, the expansion of perforated dust removal and self-adhesive quick-change forms, and environmental compliance is forcing water-based resin systems and waste-reducing, long-life designs. Non-woven abrasives are also creating replacement pressure in some surface conditioning scenarios.
