Scope of the Report

The global Palm Acid Oil market size is predicted to grow from US$ 670 million in 2025 to US$ 848 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.4% from 2026 to 2032.

Palm Acid Oil (PAO) is a high-free-fatty-acid by-product generated during alkaline refining, acidulation or refining-related recovery processes of palm oil. It usually contains a high proportion of free fatty acids, together with some neutral oil, moisture and impurities, and is mainly obtained from the acidulation of soapstock or other refinery by-product streams. It is not edible refined palm oil, but a lower-cost industrial oil and fat feedstock used in fatty acids, soap base, detergents, animal-feed calcium soaps, biodiesel, oleochemicals and certain biofuel feedstock systems. PAO is generally different from PFAD, as PFAD is mainly generated from the deodorization stage of physical refining, while PAO is more closely associated with soapstock acidulation in chemical refining, although the two products can overlap in fatty-acid feedstock applications. In 2025, the average price of Palm Acid Oil was approximately USD 480 per ton, and the industry's average gross margin was around 12%.

The demand for Palm Acid Oil is mainly driven by oleochemicals, biodiesel, industrial soap base, detergents and fatty-acid feedstocks for animal nutrition. Because PAO has a high free fatty acid content and is generally cheaper than refined palm oil and some refined fatty acids, it has strong substitution value in cost-sensitive industrial formulations. Concentrated palm oil refining capacity in Southeast Asia and stable refinery by-product streams form the supply base for PAO. On the demand side, growth in fatty acids, metallic soaps, calcium soaps, soap noodles, low-cost detergents, biodiesel and renewable fuel feedstocks has gradually turned PAO from a traditional by-product into an industrial oil and oleochemical feedstock with independent trading value. At the same time, PAO prices are highly affected by CPO, PFAD, waste oils, methyl esters, biodiesel policies, export duties and sustainability certification requirements, resulting in relatively strong market volatility.
