Scope of the Report

The global Wind Power Full-Power Converter market size is predicted to grow from US$ 2,947 million in 2025 to US$ 3,932 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.3% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2025, the global production volume of full-power converters for wind energy is projected to reach 100.42 GW, with an average selling price of $30 per kilowatt. The global annual production capacity for these converters stands at approximately 200 GW, with a gross margin of approximately 26.5%. A full-power wind converter is a power electronic device that serves as the complete power conversion channel connecting the stator windings of a wind turbine generator to the power grid. Its defining characteristic is that the entirety of the power generated by the turbine (100%) must be processed by the converter before being fed into the grid. This converter employs an AC-DC-AC back-to-back topology: the front end (machine-side converter) rectifies the variable-frequency, variable-voltage AC output from the generator into DC power, while the back end (grid-side converter) inverts this DC power back into AC power that is synchronized in both frequency and phase with the grid. This configuration effectively electrically isolates the generator from the grid, thereby enabling variable-speed, constant-frequency operation across the full range of power output. The upstream segment of the full-power wind converter industry comprises components such as IGBT modules, IGBT driver chips, and SiC devices. The midstream segment consists of the manufacturers of these full-power converters, while the downstream segment primarily encompasses sectors such as offshore and onshore wind power generation.

The current market for full-power wind converters is undergoing a period of rapid growth, driven jointly by technological iteration and the broader energy transition. Fueled by the dual forces of scaling-up in onshore wind power and the accelerated expansion of offshore wind farms, full-power converters—which are better suited to accommodate high-power turbine units—are gradually becoming the market mainstream, with the advantages of this technical approach becoming increasingly evident. Concurrently, as global demand for renewable energy continues to surge, this sector has not only attracted a multitude of market participants but has also witnessed intensifying competition, with products evolving toward greater efficiency and enhanced intelligence. Despite these promising market prospects, the industry nonetheless faces challenges related to the supply chains for core components as well as the imperative for continuous technological innovation.
