Scope of the Report

The global Lithium Nickel Oxide market size is predicted to grow from US$ 3,215 million in 2025 to US$ 6,146 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9.8% from 2026 to 2032.

Lithium Nickel Oxide is a layered lithium transition-metal oxide widely used as a high-energy-density cathode active material in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, particularly as the nickel-rich base material for advanced cathodes such as NCA (Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide) and high-nickel NCM/NMC (Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese Oxide) formulations. It offers high specific capacity and energy density but requires careful synthesis and stabilization due to its sensitivity to moisture, thermal instability, and cation mixing. The supply chain begins with upstream raw materials including nickel ores or nickel sulfate, lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide, and specialty processing chemicals. Midstream manufacturers refine battery-grade nickel and lithium compounds, then produce LiNiO₂ through co-precipitation, mixing, calcination, and surface-treatment processes to achieve the required crystal structure and electrochemical performance. Cathode material producers supply LiNiO₂ powders to battery cell manufacturers, who integrate them into electrodes and lithium-ion cells. Downstream applications include electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage systems (ESS), consumer electronics, power tools, aerospace batteries, and other high-performance rechargeable battery systems. Recycling companies increasingly form a secondary supply chain by recovering nickel and lithium from spent batteries for reuse in cathode material production. In 2025, global Lithium Nickel Oxide output was about 320,000 tons with 380,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 8,000–18,000 per ton, and gross margins around 26%.

Global key Lithium Nickel Oxide players cover BASF (Germany), Umicore (Belgium), Nichia (Japan), Toda Kogyo (Japan), Tanaka Chemical (Japan), etc.
