Scope of the Report

The global Amido Black market size is predicted to grow from US$ 17.61 million in 2025 to US$ 26.39 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.0% from 2026 to 2032.

Amido Black, commonly represented by Amido Black 10B/Acid Black 1, CAS 1064-48-8, is an anionic disazo acid dye. Commercial forms mainly include dark brown to blue-black powders and pre-formulated staining solutions. It can bind with proteins, collagen, hemoglobin, and similar substances to produce a blue-black color. It is used both as an acid dye for protein fibers such as wool, silk, nylon, and leather, and in electrophoresis gels, nitrocellulose/PVDF membranes, tissue and cell sections, and forensic bloodstain fingerprint development. Gross margins for industrial dye grades are typically around 15%–25%, while reagent-grade and forensic-formulated products can reach 40%–60% or above.

At the industrial dye level, Amido Black has relatively large consumption but low unit prices. High-purity or formulated products for laboratories, histology, and forensics have smaller consumption volumes but significantly higher unit prices and margins.

On the demand side, stable demand is mainly supported by dyeing of protein fibers such as leather, wool, silk, and nylon. Total protein staining, membrane staining, and tissue staining in life science laboratories provide higher-value small-batch demand. Forensic field applications require high sensitivity and contrast for bloodstain fingerprint development, leaving room for ready-to-use staining solutions, fixation-staining systems, and low-toxicity water-based formulations to replace older products.

Supply-side competition is clearly segmented. Industrial-grade powders are mainly supplied by dye supply chains in India, China, and other regions, with prices more affected by upstream aromatic amines, H-acid, and environmental compliance costs. Reagent-grade, histology-grade, and forensic-grade products rely more on batch stability, SDS/COA documentation, absorption peak control, and application validation. Future growth will not come from large-scale new volume, but mainly from low-toxicity solvent system replacement, improved compliance documentation, and price premiums for high-purity small-pack products.
