Scope of the Report
The global Manganese Oxide Powder market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1,462 million in 2025 to US$ 2,227 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2026 to 2032.
Manganese oxide powders are inorganic manganese-oxygen compounds supplied in powder form, mainly including manganese dioxide(MnO₂), manganese(II) oxide(MnO), trimanganese tetroxide or manganese(II,III) oxide(Mn₃O₄), and selected high-purity, activated, modified, or nanoscale manganese oxides. Their oxidation state, crystal structure, purity, particle size, surface area, and impurity profile determine their redox behavior, electrochemical performance, color, magnetic-material precursor value, and end-use suitability. Manganese dioxide is widely used in dry-cell batteries, alkaline batteries, lithium manganese dioxide batteries, catalysts, oxidants, ceramics, glass, and water treatment. Manganese(II) oxide is used in animal feed, fertilizers, chemical synthesis, welding consumables, metallurgy, and selected battery precursor routes. Trimanganese tetroxide is mainly used in soft ferrites, electronic ceramics, and manganese-based battery material precursors. The value chain connects manganese ore, manganese salts, and hydrometallurgical processing with batteries, electronic materials, ceramics, glass, agriculture, feed, metallurgy, welding, water treatment, and specialty chemicals.
In 2025, the global production of manganese oxide powder is estimated at 1.3 million tons, with an average price of US$1,150 per ton and a gross profit margin of 24%.
From a supply perspective, the market is characterized by Chinese strength in manganese chemical processing, selected overseas producers in battery and specialty grades, and Indian suppliers in feed, fertilizer, and chemical-grade products. China is highly important in EMD, natural manganese dioxide, manganese tetroxide, and manganese-based battery materials, with representative companies such as Xiangtan Electrochemical, South Manganese, Guizhou Redstar, Guangxi Guiliu, QingChong, and Guizhou Dalong Huicheng. International and regional suppliers such as Tosoh, Borman, Vibrantz, American Elements, GoodEarth, and Manmohan serve battery, high-purity, ceramic, feed, chemical, and specialty powder applications. IMnI states that EMD and EMM production is mostly Chinese, while Xiangtan Electrochemical states that its main business includes electrolytic manganese dioxide and new energy battery materials, supporting China’s central role in this supply chain.
Demand is led by batteries but remains diversified. Manganese dioxide is a long-established cathode material in zinc-carbon, alkaline, and lithium manganese dioxide batteries, and EMD is also linked to manganese-based rechargeable battery material routes. IMnI notes that batteries are the largest non-alloy market for manganese, with manganese usually used in the form of manganese dioxide and manganese sulphate as cathode materials. Outside batteries, Mn₃O₄ is used in soft ferrites and electronic ceramics, while MnO and MnO₂ are used in ceramics, glass, pigments, feed, fertilizers, welding, metallurgy, water treatment, and catalysts. GoodEarth and Manmohan list manganese oxide and manganese dioxide products for feed, fertilizer, chemical, and industrial uses, showing that non-battery markets remain an important demand base.
From a technology perspective, future upgrading will focus on higher purity, tighter particle-size control, lower impurity levels, battery-grade specifications, electronic-grade performance, and greener processing. Standard natural MnO₂ and feed-grade MnO are highly price-competitive and relatively mature, while battery-grade EMD, high-purity Mn₃O₄, low-magnetic-impurity powders, nanoscale manganese oxides, and catalyst-grade manganese dioxide require stronger control of purification, crystal structure, surface area, and batch consistency. South Manganese describes Mn₃O₄ as an important material for high-grade Mn-Zn ferrite magnetic cores, and QingChong lists manganese dioxide, EMD, manganese tetroxide, and manganese oxide products across batteries, ceramics, glass, metallurgy, water treatment, feed, and fertilizers. This indicates that market growth will come less from raw manganese mining and more from higher-value battery, electronic, catalytic, and specialty powder applications.
