Scope of the Report

The global Nickel Mining market size is predicted to grow from US$ 8,617 million in 2025 to US$ 10,173 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.2% from 2026 to 2032.

Nickel mining refers to resource development activities involving the exploration, stripping, mining, beneficiation, and preliminary processing of nickel-bearing deposits. The core objective is to obtain nickel ore, nickel concentrate, or laterite nickel ore raw materials suitable for smelting or hydrometallurgical extraction. Its resource forms mainly include two categories: laterite nickel ore and sulfide nickel ore, ultimately serving downstream industries such as stainless steel, power batteries, special alloys, electroplating, and chemicals. Nickel ore itself is not a final consumer product; its application lies in the final uses of downstream nickel products. Currently, the largest demand still comes from the stainless steel industry, followed by ternary materials for power batteries, nickel-based high-temperature alloys, electroplating, casting, special steel, and some chemical fields. The upstream of the industry mainly includes mineral rights acquisition, geological exploration, mining equipment, blasting materials, diesel and electricity, tires and wear-resistant parts, mineral processing reagents, port logistics, and environmental protection services; the midstream includes mining, crushing, screening, mineral processing, and ore transportation; the downstream connects to nickel pig iron (NPI), pyrometallurgical smelting, hydrometallurgical HPAL, nickel matte/high-grade nickel matte, refined nickel, nickel sulfate, and further stainless steel, power battery materials, and high-performance alloy manufacturing. Gross profit margins range from approximately 10% to 25%.

The most significant characteristic of the current global market is that supply growth is outpacing revenue growth. Indonesia's production remains the world's largest, becoming a core variable determining industry supply expansion, price fluctuations, and the competitive landscape. Simultaneously, affected by oversupply, LFP substitution, and slowing demand from the battery sector, global nickel prices continue to be under pressure, and high-cost mines may even turn negative. In the coming years, the nickel mining industry will continue to exhibit a development trend of "Indonesia dominance, price pressure, accelerated integration of mining and metallurgy, clearing of high-cost capacity, and differentiation in downstream demand structure".
