概観

Scope of the Report

The global Galacto-oligosaccharide Slurry market size is predicted to grow from US$ 201 million in 2025 to US$ 337 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.8% from 2026 to 2032.

Galacto-oligosaccharide (GOS) slurry is a liquid form of functional oligosaccharide produced from lactose via enzymatic synthesis. It is typically a colorless to light yellow viscous solution, containing 55%–75% GOS (dry basis), with the remainder consisting of lactose, glucose, and water. As a natural prebiotic, GOS slurry supports the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, helps regulate gut microbiota, and enhances immune function. It is widely used in liquid dairy products, beverages, probiotic drinks, and infant formula.

As one of the most common commercial forms of GOS, Galacto-oligosaccharide Slurry (GOS Slurry) features high solubility, thermal stability, and excellent process compatibility, making it ideal for integration into various food and beverage applications.

GOS slurry is enzymatically synthesized from lactose using β-galactosidase. It contains oligosaccharides with 2–8 saccharide units, which act as prebiotics by selectively stimulating beneficial gut bacteria like bifidobacteria. The slurry format offers significant advantages in liquid processing environments, especially in infant formula production, yogurt, milk beverages, plant-based milk, functional drinks, and fermented fruit juices.

Compared with powdered GOS, the slurry form is more suitable for continuous mixing, pasteurization, and pipeline transport in dairy and beverage factories. Its moderate sweetness also enables partial sugar replacement in formulations aimed at health-conscious consumers.

In terms of market distribution, Europe, Japan, and North America are mature markets where GOS slurry is widely used in premium infant formula and gut-health-oriented dairy. In China and Southeast Asia, increasing health awareness, dietary diversification, and strong dairy consumption trends are driving rapid adoption. Chinese producers have achieved significant breakthroughs in cost control and product consistency, enabling wider domestic and export use.

Looking ahead, the GOS slurry market is expected to benefit from:

Demand for clean-label, functional ingredients in beverages;

Regulatory support for prebiotics in infant and elderly nutrition;

Development of low-lactose, high-purity GOS solutions.

As food producers shift toward healthier, gut-friendly formulations, GOS slurry is set to remain a key ingredient in the global functional food and beverage sector.
