Scope of the Report

The global All Iron Flow Battery market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1,103 million in 2025 to US$ 12,250 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 41.8% from 2026 to 2032.

All iron flow batteries are energy storage batteries that can convert electrical energy into chemical energy for storage, and then convert chemical energy into electrical energy for release when needed. All iron flow batteries balance the load of the power grid by storing electrical energy, and release the stored electrical energy during peak energy demand periods, thereby providing a stable power supply for the power system. Therefore, iron-based liquid flow batteries play an important role in achieving a smooth power supply from renewable energy and improving the stability of the power grid. The price of an all-iron liquid flow battery will be 1/3 of that of an all-vanadium liquid flow battery, which can significantly reduce the cost of current liquid flow batteries. The all-iron liquid flow battery uses neutral ferrous chloride as the active material. It is low-cost, environmentally friendly, has high energy density, and has obvious resource advantages. It can meet the needs of large-scale, long-term energy storage at the future grid level and is beginning to stand out.

Compared with the high cost of all-vanadium flow batteries, the raw materials of all-iron flow batteries are safe and abundant iron, inorganic salts and water. All-iron flow batteries are not toxic and will not cause explosion risks. The advantages of all-iron flow batteries mean that they will continue to gain the favor of industry investors. The advantages of iron flow batteries determine their broad development prospects.

The direct application of all-iron flow batteries is renewable energy storage. Renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar energy are intermittent and difficult to accurately predict. As a renewable energy storage device, all-iron flow batteries can convert difficult-to-regulate electric energy into valuable electric energy. All-iron flow batteries not only have the function of "peak shaving and valley filling", but also can ensure the safe operation of the power grid.

Under the background of "dual carbon", energy storage, as a key link to achieve the goal, will usher in rapid development. From the existing technology, all-iron flow batteries have been well applied on the power generation side, the power grid side, and the user side. They have a high degree of fit with technical requirements and a fast cost reduction rate. They have very broad application prospects in energy storage.

In 2021, North American ESS signed an agreement with SoftBank's SDenergy, committing to provide it with 2GWh of battery systems by 2026.
