Scope of the Report

The global Motor Winding Temperature Protection Relay market size is predicted to grow from US$ 352 million in 2025 to US$ 495 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.7% from 2026 to 2032.

A Motor Winding Temperature Protection Relay is an independently powered protection module that receives signals from PTC or NTC thermistors, Pt100/Pt1000 RTDs, bimetal contacts or compatible temperature sensors embedded in or attached to an electric-motor winding and provides alarm, trip or cooling-control outputs when an overtemperature threshold or sensor fault is detected. The scope includes single- and multi-input thermistor evaluation relays, automatic/manual/remote-reset products, alarm-and-trip relays, hazardous-area-certified units and digital temperature protection modules whose primary function is direct winding-temperature protection; it excludes thermal overload relays based mainly on motor current, motor circuit breakers, comprehensive motor-management relays without a dedicated winding-temperature input, standalone sensors, embedded thermal cut-outs, general PID temperature controllers, transformer-only controllers, drives and soft starters, complete control panels and installation or monitoring services. One unit represents one independently installable relay module. The 2025 ASP is US$137.02/unit, global sales volume is approximately 2,497.081 k units, and the estimated average gross margin is approximately 38%. The upstream chain includes PTC/NTC and RTD interface components, power-supply modules, microcontrollers, analog front ends, electromechanical relays, optocouplers, terminals, LEDs, displays, housings and printed circuit boards; midstream activities include circuit design, firmware development, assembly, calibration, functional testing, safety certification, enclosure integration and packaging; downstream users include motor manufacturers, pump and compressor OEMs, motor-control-center builders, industrial machinery producers, HVAC equipment manufacturers, utilities, process plants and maintenance contractors.

Direct winding-temperature protection is gaining importance because current-based overload devices cannot fully capture overheating caused by blocked cooling, high ambient temperature, frequent starts or variable-frequency operation. Embedded sensors provide a closer indication of actual thermal stress.

PTC thermistors remain the mainstream input for simple trip protection, while RTD-capable relays are used where operators need actual temperature values, separate alarm and trip thresholds or bearing-temperature monitoring. Multi-sensor compatibility is increasing in higher-value products.

Product development is moving toward wider AC/DC supply ranges, narrower DIN-rail housings, pluggable terminals, sensor open/short detection and selectable reset behavior. Digital versions add displays, event memory, analog outputs and fieldbus communication for maintenance diagnostics.

Safety-critical installations favor fail-safe output logic, non-volatile fault storage and certified isolation. Hazardous-area motors in process industries create demand for relays that support recognized thermistor characteristics and approved shutdown functions.

Europe remains attractive because of its large installed base of industrial motors, strong machinery exports and emphasis on electrical safety and hazardous-area compliance. Replacement demand and energy-efficiency upgrades support steady growth.

The Middle East offers opportunities in oil and gas, petrochemicals, desalination, district cooling, water transfer and large HVAC systems. High ambient temperatures and continuous motor operation increase the value of direct winding sensing.
