개요

Scope of the Report

The global Styrene Butadiene Rubber Latex market size is predicted to grow from US$ 3,793 million in 2025 to US$ 5,401 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.2% from 2026 to 2032.

Styrene Butadiene Rubber Latex, or SBR Latex, is a waterborne synthetic polymer dispersion produced mainly by the emulsion copolymerization of styrene and butadiene, with optional functional monomers such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or itaconic acid used to produce carboxylated SBR latex grades. It is supplied as a liquid latex rather than a dry rubber, and its key commercial specifications typically include solids content, viscosity, particle size, pH, styrene-to-butadiene ratio, mechanical stability and carboxyl functionality. Compared with dry emulsion SBR rubber, SBR Latex is designed to remain in an aqueous dispersion form and to function primarily as a binder, coating latex, backing adhesive, modifier or film-forming polymer. Non-carboxylated SBR latex is commonly used in more general-purpose applications, while carboxylated SBR latex offers stronger adhesion, improved water resistance, better pigment and filler binding, higher mechanical stability and enhanced compatibility with inorganic materials. Its major end-use industries include paper and paperboard coating, carpet and textile backing, construction and cement mortar modification, adhesives and sealants, industrial coatings, foam rubber products and lithium-ion battery anode binders. In paper coating, it improves surface strength, printability, gloss and pigment binding; in carpet and textile backing, it fixes fibers and enhances dimensional stability; in construction materials, it improves flexibility, adhesion, crack resistance and water resistance; and in battery materials, high-performance SBR latex is used with graphite or silicon-based anode systems to maintain electrode integrity during charge-discharge cycles. Overall, SBR Latex is positioned as a versatile waterborne synthetic rubber latex whose market demand is driven by paper packaging, flooring and textile applications, polymer-modified construction materials, water-based adhesive systems and the growing use of aqueous binders in lithium-ion batteries.

Global production was 2,866.0 kilotons in 2025 and is projected to reach 3,732.7 kilotons by 2032. Growth is supported by the continued use of SBR latex as a binder, coating latex, backing adhesive, construction modifier and specialty waterborne polymer material across multiple industrial sectors.

Regionally, the market is increasingly led by Asia, especially China. China’s SBR Latex production value was USD 1,264.76 million in 2025 and is forecast to reach USD 1,959.78 million by 2032, making it the largest and fastest-growing major production region in the report. North America and Europe remain important mature production bases, with 2025 production values of USD 819.83 million and USD 784.16 million, respectively, but their growth rates are lower than China and other emerging regions. Japan remains a smaller but technically important production base, supported by higher-specification latex applications.

The main market drivers are recurring demand from paper and paperboard coating, the expansion of waterborne adhesives and coating systems, rising adoption of higher-performance carboxylated grades, growth in lithium-ion battery anode binders and the cost-performance advantage of SBR latex versus alternative binder systems. Environmental and regulatory pressure also supports the broader shift from solvent-based materials to waterborne polymer dispersions. At the same time, raw-material volatility in styrene and butadiene makes cost pass-through, regional sourcing and supply-chain resilience increasingly important for producer profitability.
