Scope of the Report

The global Sulphur Recovery Unit market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1,282 million in 2025 to US$ 1,824 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.2% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2025, global sulfur recovery unit production reached approximately 1008 units, the average price is 1300 usd/unit.Sulfur recovery unit is an industrial facility used to treat toxic sulfur-containing gases such as hydrogen sulfide. Its core function is to convert these harmful sulfides into valuable elemental sulfur, thus realizing the dual purposes of resource recovery and environmental protection.

Claus process is generally adopted as the core technical route of the unit. Its working principle is mainly divided into two steps: firstly, about one-third of the volume of hydrogen sulfide is burned in the reaction furnace to generate sulfur dioxide, and then the volume ratio of residual hydrogen sulfide and generated sulfur dioxide is accurately controlled to react under the action of catalyst to finally generate elemental sulfur and water. In order to maximize the recovery rate of sulfur, modern units usually adopt multi-stage catalytic reaction and condensation separation process, the basic recovery rate can reach 95% to 98%, if combined with tail gas treatment technology such as SCOT, the total recovery rate can even be increased to more than 99.9%, so that the sulfur dioxide emission concentration in the tail gas is significantly reduced.

Market Concentration and Key Players:

Internationally, the sulfur recovery unit market is highly concentrated, mainly in developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan. For example, Jacobs Engineering Group and Chiyoda Corporation and other large manufacturers; from the domestic point of view, sulfur recovery unit still has a lot of room for development.

Manufacturing Processes and Market Trends:

The core of the manufacturing process of sulfur recovery unit lies in the efficient conversion of toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide into elemental sulfur through chemical processes to achieve resource recovery and environmental protection goals, and its market development is closely linked to global energy structure transformation and environmental protection policies. In terms of manufacturing, Claus process and its improved process are the mainstream of the industry. This process first accurately controls the air volume in the combustion furnace, so that about one third of hydrogen sulfide is burned to generate sulfur dioxide, and the remaining hydrogen sulfide reacts with sulfur dioxide in the proportion of 2:1 under the action of catalyst to generate sulfur and water. After multi-stage condensation separation, the basic sulfur recovery rate can reach 95 - 98%. In order to further improve the recovery rate and meet the increasingly stringent environmental emission standards (such as China GB31570 -2015 requires that the sulfur dioxide concentration in tail gas be lower than 100 mg/m³), modern units often integrate tail gas treatment technologies such as SCOT to form a combined process, so that the total sulfur recovery rate can reach more than 99.9%. In addition, new processes such as biological desulfurization, membrane separation and SLOS low temperature oxidation are also being developed to achieve higher sulfur purity and resource recovery efficiency at lower energy consumption.

In terms of market trends, the global sulfur recovery industry is continuing to grow, with technological innovation becoming a key force driving the market. Tighter environmental regulations continue to push companies to upgrade their technology, driving demand for efficient recycling units. The demand structure is also changing, although traditional areas such as phosphate fertilizer still occupy an important position, but the demand for high-purity sulfur for new energy materials (such as lithium iron phosphate batteries) is growing rapidly. At the same time, the stability of the industrial chain supply chain has received attention. In the market with high dependence on sulfur, improving the self-sufficiency rate of resources and promoting the recycling of sulfur resources have become important directions. The technology itself is evolving towards intelligence, integration and low carbonization. Digital technologies such as digital twins and AI optimization are applied to improve the operation efficiency and economic benefit of the device.
