Scope of the Report

The global Kraft Linerboard market size is predicted to grow from US$ 35,100 million in 2025 to US$ 40,390 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.1% from 2026 to 2032.

Kraft Linerboard is a tough, solid, high-grade transport packaging paperboard with high compressive strength, puncture and folding resistance, good moisture resistance and good appearance quality. It is used to make packaging cartons and has become an important material in the field of transport packaging. These cartons are widely used in the packaging of household appliances, daily necessities, needle cotton fabrics, cultural supplies, Chinese and Western medicines and other commodities.

The global kraft linerboard market is expected to grow steadily. This growth shows obvious regional characteristics: the Chinese market leads the world with a compound annual growth rate of 2.84%, and the market size is expected to exceed US$6 billion in 2031, an increase of 24.8% from 2024, mainly due to the industrial upgrading driven by the "waste ban" policy. China has achieved industrial leapfrogging through the expansion of wood pulp production capacity, with a capacity share of 11.79% in 2024, an increase of nearly 500 basis points from 2020. Although the North American market still maintains a 52.9% global production share, the growth momentum has obviously weakened, and North American companies have closed nearly 2 million tons of kraft linerboard production capacity. For example, WestRock announced in 2023 that it would permanently close its unbleached kraft linerboard and packaging paperboard plant in North Charleston, South Carolina. The plant has a kraft linerboard production capacity of 320,000 tons/year. At the same time, recycled linerboard capacity accounts for a large proportion of the new capacity. In other regions, Russia, Brazil and other regions have made major investments in the field of kraft linerboard, such as Ilim Group's Ust-Ilimsk KLB Mill and Brazilian company's Puma II project. The growth differentiation between emerging and mature markets shows that the global industry's focus is gradually shifting.

From 2020 to 2024, the global kraft paperboard price showed an abnormal fluctuation curve of "sharp rise and slow fall": after the peak exceeded US$900/ton in 2022, it fell back to around US$750 in 2023, and the North American market rose against the trend to US$830 in 2024. The price changes led to a significant increase in the revenue growth rate of the European and American markets in 2022 under the condition of declining demand, but it fell rapidly in 2023. In 2024, with the dual growth of prices and demand, the revenue market resumed its growth trend, and the continued growth of the Chinese market revenue market was mainly due to a significant increase in sales. In the Japanese market, the market sales showed an upward trend from 2020 to 2022, and gradually declined from 2023. The revenue market was affected by the exchange rate and began to decline in 2021. In 2024, due to price increases, the revenue market began to recover. In terms of corporate competition, the top four companies in the world are all American companies, accounting for 50.06% of the global sales market. In the future, as the production capacity of companies in other emerging regions increases, their market share will continue to decline.
