Scope of the Report

The global Refined Fish Oil market size is predicted to grow from US$ 4,508 million in 2025 to US$ 5,781 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.3% from 2026 to 2032.

Refined Fish Oil typically refers to crude marine fish oil (from whole fish or fish-processing by-products) that has been purified to food-/nutraceutical-grade via steps such as degumming/deacidification (neutralization), bleaching, deodorization (steam stripping under vacuum), and winterization/fractionation to remove off-flavors, free fatty acids, pigments, waxes and other high-melting fractions—improving sensory quality and oxidative stability. In industrial practice, fish-oil manufacturing is often described as three major stages: raw material handling, extraction, and refining; deodorization is essentially a vacuum steam-stripping operation, while winterization is a cooling/filtration fractionation step that removes “stearin/waxes” to yield a clearer “olein” fraction.

Global key players of Refined Fish Oil include DSM, BASF, Golden Omega, Viva Naturals and Croda Pharma, etc. The top five players hold a share over 17%. North America is the largest market, has a share about 35%. In terms of product type, Feed Grade Refined Fish Oil is the largest segment, occupied for a share of about 73%, and in terms of application, Aquatic Feed has a share about 59 percent.Commercially, refined fish oil is a B2B functional lipid ingredient market rather than a commodity edible-oil market. Upstream supply comes from fisheries and fishmeal/fish-oil integrated processors as well as by-product collection from seafood processing. Midstream refiners/concentrators add most value through purification, deodorization, fractionation and (optionally) advanced concentration/decontamination processes, selling standardized or customized grades into downstream nutraceuticals (Omega-3 supplements), infant formula, functional foods/beverages, and selected pharma/API chains. IFFO data indicates that global fish-oil supply is structurally constrained by marine resources but increasingly buffered by by-product utilization: global fish-oil production has stabilized around ~1.2 million tonnes in 2020–2024, with by-product fish oils growing to roughly ~0.67 million tonnes (~54%); for 2025, IFFO projects ~1.2–1.3 million tonnes of fish oil.

Key industry trends are: (1) quality compliance and oxidation control as a barrier to entry, with GOED’s voluntary monograph and technical guidance widely referenced for PV/pAV/TOTOX-type criteria and best practices; (2) technology-driven upgrading toward higher purity and higher concentrates, illustrated by Epax’s disclosed ~US$40m facility upgrade to enable more advanced separation/ultra-concentration; and (3) sustainability and traceability becoming procurement requirements, with MarinTrust (formerly IFFO RS) and chain-of-custody frameworks shaping supplier qualification and brand access. Demand drivers include preventive health/healthy aging, DHA/EPA fortification in infant and functional foods, tightening specs on contaminants/odor/oxidation, and the accelerating shift to by-product-based sourcing under ESG and responsible-supply expectations.
