Scope of the Report
The global Grinding Rods market size is predicted to grow from US$ 2,694 million in 2025 to US$ 4,079 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2026 to 2032.
Global grinding rod sales reached 3.6 million tons in 2025, with an average price of $752 per ton.
Steel Grinding Rods are used in metallurgy and mining for grinding the ores such as iron, copper, and gold. It is used for the processing of extracted minerals. It can be used for grinding coke and friable non-metals.
The raw materials for grinding bars use scrap steel and pig iron as the ferrite matrix. After smelting in a medium-frequency or electric arc furnace, alloys such as high-carbon ferrochrome, ferromanganese, ferromolybdenum, and ferroboron are added to achieve a composition within the range of C 0.35–0.8%, Cr 2–6%, Mn 1–2%, and trace amounts of B 0.001–0.3%. The resulting billets are then vacuum degassed and continuously cast into φ120–180mm square billets, hot-rolled into φ25–130mm round bars, and finally quenched and tempered at low temperature to obtain a bainitic-martensite multiphase structure, achieving both high hardness (HRC 45-55) and impact toughness (≥200J/cm²).
Cost Structure: Iron ore raw materials (scrap steel + alloy ladle) account for approximately 55-60% of the ex-factory price, with high-carbon ferrochrome, ferromolybdenum, and ferroboron alloys accounting for 35% of the raw material cost; rolling, heat treatment, and electricity consumption account for 15-18%; depreciation of rolls and equipment is 8%; labor, quality inspection, and transportation costs are 7-10%; profit and capital costs are 5-7%. Taking a 60mm quenched and tempered grinding bar from Shandong in 2025 as an example, raw materials account for 55%; if expensive alloys such as molybdenum and nickel are added, the raw material proportion can rise to 65%.

Dual-validation approach: bottom-up sizing aggregates segment-level production, consumption, and trade data; top-down sizing cross-validates against macroeconomic indicators and total addressable market estimates. Discrepancies >5% trigger analyst review.
Company profiles built from public financial disclosures, product launches, M&A activity, job postings (as capability proxies), and supply chain mapping. Market share estimates triangulated across revenue, capacity, and shipment data.
CAGR projections use time-series regression on 5-10 years of historical data, adjusted for identified demand drivers (technology adoption curves, regulatory catalysts, demographic shifts) and demand inhibitors (cost barriers, substitution risk). Scenario modeling covers base, optimistic, and conservative cases.
All quantitative outputs reviewed by a domain-specialist analyst before publication. Data triangulation requires minimum 3 independent sources for every key figure. Reports undergo a structured peer review against our 47-point quality checklist covering methodology, data citations, logical consistency, and formatting standards.
