1 . 1. In Denmark auction for spectrum in the 3.5GHz band expected later in 2020
Excellent cable and DSL infrastructure have been supported by a progressive regulatory regime which has encouraged operator access to both copper and fibre networks. Fibre networks have a fast-growing footprint, while a number of community and metropolitan schemes have supplemented TDC’s own commitments to build out fibre nationally. 2 . 2. Telekom Deutschland launches 5G in five cities
Germany has one of Europe’s largest telecom markets, as befits a country with a population approaching 83 million. Both the fixed network and broadband markets are dominated by Telekom Deutschland, though other notable players include freenet, Vodafone Germany and Telefónica Germany. In late 2019, Deutsche Telekom launched its 5G network across five German cities — Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Bonn, and Darmstadt.

4 . 4. Finland concluded auction for 3.5GHz spectrum
Just as Finland was in the forefront of LTE developments in Europe, so has it emerged as one of the pioneers in 5G. The auction of spectrum in the 700MHz and 3.5GHh bands has enabled network operators to extend the availability of LTE services nationally and to prepare for 5G services. Spectrum in the 3.5GHz has been assigned for 5G across Europe.

6 . 6. Telia Estonia, TalTech University and Ericsson launch testbed 5G network
The country has one of the most advanced mobile markets in Europe, the result of considerable investment from the mobile network operators Telia, Elisa and Tele2. The market enjoys effective competition between these MNOs, although the MVNO sector remains underdeveloped. Operator investment in new technologies has supported the fast developing mobile broadband sector. Telia and its vendor partners launched a 5G testbed in January 2019 and the sector is expected to underpin revenue growth in coming years once services become commercially available from about 2020.

7 . 7. Cyta expands FttP services
The broadband market continues to develop steadily, providing the country with one of the highest broadband penetration rates in the region. DSL remains the dominant access platform, with cable broadband restricted to a single operator, Cablenet. Although Cablenet’s network was for long concentrated in a few key towns, under the management of its majority-owner GO the company has invested in both its fixed-line and mobile networks, and its cable infrastructure now covers about 53% of premises. Fibre infrastructure in Cyprus is still in its infancy, though Cyta since mid-2018 has embarked on a significant ten-year NGN investment program which includes extending an FttP service to about 200,000 premises.
