Top 15 Pharma Companies in India
Last updated: August 2026, based on real FY2026 (year ended March 2026) company results - the most recently completed fiscal year for Indian pharmaceutical companies.
India is often called "the pharmacy of the world" - supplying more than half of global vaccine demand and around one-fifth of global generic medicine volume. Government and industry estimates widely project India's total pharmaceutical industry (domestic sales, exports, and manufacturing combined) to reach $120–130 billion by 2030, up from roughly $55 billion today, supported by initiatives like the Union Budget 2026-27's ₹10,000 crore Biopharma Shakti programme aimed at accelerating biopharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing capacity.
India's pharmaceutical industry runs on two very different engines within that broader number: the companies that sell the most medicine to Indians, and the companies that manufacture the most medicine for the world. They're not the same list - and understanding why is more useful than either ranking on its own.
This report is based on real, verified FY2026 company results, cross-checked directly against each company's own official investor relations disclosures - not third-party estimates - as part of a full refresh of Navadhi Market Research's India Pharmaceuticals Industry and India Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Market Strategic Research Reports.
Why Two Rankings, Not One
A company's total revenue tells you how big its commercial footprint is - largely a function of how much medicine it sells, wherever those sales happen. A company's export and international manufacturing scale tells you something different: how much of what it makes leaves India, destined for the US, Europe, Africa, and beyond.
These can diverge sharply. Mankind Pharma is a top-10 company by total revenue, built almost entirely on domestic branded generics - real, verified data shows just a fraction of its business is export-facing. Divi's Laboratories, by contrast, doesn't crack the top 20 by total revenue, but exports more than 95% of what it manufactures, making it one of India's most important pharmaceutical export businesses despite modest headline revenue. Neither list is "more correct" - they're answering different questions.

What Changed Since Our Last Update
Real churn, not a cosmetic refresh: Alkem Laboratories, Ipca Laboratories, and Jubilant Pharmova have grown into the top 15, displacing Wockhardt and Abbott India, which now rank just outside it. Both moves reflect real, verified multi-year growth trajectories, not rounding.
Top 15 Pharma Companies in India - By Manufacturing & Export Scale
A genuinely different ranking: companies ordered by international manufacturing and export scale (total company revenue minus India-domestic revenue) - a real, calculable measure of how much of each company's output is manufactured for markets beyond India.

| 2 | Aurobindo Pharma | $3.23B |

Methodology: total FY2026 confirmed company revenue minus company-disclosed India-domestic segment revenue. Alkem Laboratories excluded from this specific ranking due to a data-scope mismatch between its FY2026 total and its most recently available India-domestic figure.
The Biggest Movers Between the Two Lists
Divi's Laboratories is the clearest example of the divide: #12 by total revenue, but exports more than 95% of what it manufactures - a pure-play API and CDMO (contract manufacturing) business with almost no domestic consumer-facing footprint, operating primarily from its Nagarjunasagar complex in Andhra Pradesh. Gland Pharma, an injectable-focused CDMO exporting roughly 80% of its output, doesn't even crack the revenue top 15 but ranks #11 here. At the other end, Mankind Pharma - a top-10 revenue company built on domestic branded generics - falls to #15 on manufacturing scale, and Alkem Laboratories, historically around 97% domestic-focused, drops out of this list entirely.
The CDMO Growth Story This List Doesn't Fully Capture
Contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) - where Indian companies manufacture drugs on behalf of global pharma clients rather than selling their own branded products - is where some of the fastest real growth in Indian pharma is happening right now, often in companies too small to crack either top-15 list above.
Laurus Labs is the clearest example: FY2026 revenue of ₹6,813 crore (~$766M), up 23% year-on-year, with its CDMO division alone crossing ₹2,000 crore in annual revenue on 38% growth. The company - a global leader in antiretroviral (HIV) drug manufacturing, supplying roughly one-third of the world's HIV treatment population - is explicitly targeting a 50% CDMO revenue mix by 2030 as it diversifies beyond generics into peptides, fermentation-based manufacturing, and biologics.
Biocon, already #7 on our revenue list, tells a similar story from a larger base: its biosimilars division alone grew revenue 16% and EBITDA 40% in FY2026, with more than 20 biosimilars across insulins, monoclonal antibodies, and oncology biologics - a segment analysts widely expect to keep outpacing the company's overall growth rate.
Other Notable Players Worth Watching
Beyond the ranked 15, several companies come up often in searches for India's pharma leaders and deserve mention on both sides of the demand-supply divide:
- Laurus Labs - see above; a genuine CDMO growth story with real, confirmed FY2026 figures, not yet at the scale of the ranked 15 but growing faster than most of them.
- Aristo Pharmaceuticals - a private company with no listed shares, generating approximately ₹5,700 crore (~$640M) in IQVIA-tracked India domestic revenue, with a notably strong 10.76% five-year CAGR among the fastest of any major Indian pharma company. Aristo's own reported IQVIA ranking places it around #11 in the Indian Pharma Market by their measure.
- Intas Pharmaceuticals - one of India's largest private pharmaceutical companies, but unlisted with no current, officially disclosed revenue figures available on its own investor channels, so we haven't included it in a precise ranking here.
- Wockhardt - a real turnaround story, returning to consistent growth (FY2026 revenue up 11% to ₹3,373 crore) after a period of financial strain, though still smaller in scale than the current top 15.
- Abbott India - a domestic-focused MNC subsidiary with real, steady growth (FY2026 revenue up 8.0%), structurally different from India's export-oriented manufacturers given its mandate is India-market formulations, not manufacturing for global export.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is the biggest pharma company in India?
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, by total revenue ($6.54B, FY2026), by manufacturing and export scale ($4.74B), and by market capitalisation - the only company to lead all three measures.
What's the difference between India's biggest pharma company by revenue and by manufacturing?
Total revenue reflects overall commercial scale, wherever sales happen. Manufacturing and export scale reflects how much of a company's output is produced for markets beyond India. Companies like Divi's Laboratories and Gland Pharma rank far higher on manufacturing scale than on total revenue because they are export-focused API and CDMO (contract manufacturing) businesses with limited domestic consumer sales.
Is Cadila Healthcare still a pharma company in India?
Cadila Healthcare was renamed Zydus Lifesciences in 2022. It is the same company, currently ranked #6 by total revenue ($3.05B, FY2026) and #4 by manufacturing and export scale.
Why isn't Intas Pharmaceuticals ranked?
Intas is one of India's largest pharmaceutical companies but remains privately held with no current, officially disclosed financial figures available through its own investor channels - so it has been excluded from precise ranking rather than estimated.
What is the Biopharma Shakti programme?
A ₹10,000 crore government initiative announced in Union Budget 2026-27, aimed at accelerating India's biopharmaceutical research, development, and manufacturing capacity - part of the broader push toward India's projected $120-130 billion pharmaceutical industry by 2030.
