Advanced dispensers would release fuel through a remotely operated system manged by station staff, who monitors each dispenser fuelling point via a Wi-Fi enabled high-resolution camera. The control of the refueling process lies with the operator and only starts once he/she releases the dispenser from a remote site. The remote operator can refuse the refueling if the dispenser’s nozzle is not properly inserted in the fuel tank; in that case, the customer can reach the operator via intercom.
 
Customers can pay through EMV enabled terminals, which would be compliant with domestic and international cards, including fuel cards and loyalty cards. The EMV enabled dispenser will be an additional layer of security from card fraudster, and the same time makes the fuelling experience completely autonomous.

The Bottom Line

As consumers are becoming increasingly aware of EMV technology many convenience stores have installed EMV-enabled payment terminals at their fuel pumps. There is a significant cost associated with upgrading these devices (around USD 3.92 billion), however, through a wireless EMV upgrade, the cost can be reduced to USD 4000 to USD 20,000 per dispenser.
