Scope of the Report

The global Switchgears market size is predicted to grow from US$ 97,684 million in 2025 to US$ 147,174 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.7% from 2026 to 2032.

Switchgears are complete sets of equipment that integrate switching devices (circuit breakers/load switches/isolating and grounding switches, etc.) with busbars, measuring and transformers (CT/VT), relay protection and control circuits, interlocking and safety mechanisms, monitoring and communication interfaces, etc., in a metal cabinet/row. They are used for the access, distribution, control, isolation, protection and monitoring of power systems. Their engineering boundaries are usually divided according to voltage levels, and each corresponds to different standard systems and typical structural forms.

The switchgear market is essentially a reflection of power investment intensity: power grid expansion and upgrading, renewable energy grid integration, industrial electrification, and high-load scenarios such as data centers are jointly driving up demand for medium and low-voltage (MV/LV) products, while power transmission & transformation and ultra-high voltage (UHV) infrastructure projects are fueling demand for high-end categories like high-voltage GIS.

In terms of demand structure, MV/LV switchgear is capturing more direct benefits. Data center power consumption, under the IEA’s baseline scenario, is projected to reach approximately 945 TWh by 2030 (representing substantial growth compared with 2024 levels). The expansion of power reception and distribution capacity in data center parks will continue to drive the upgrading of MV/LV switchgear, ring main units (RMUs), and protection & monitoring system configurations. Meanwhile, the supply side remains constrained by long lead times in certain regions: critical power equipment such as transformers and high-voltage gear has seen significant delivery cycle extensions and a wave of capacity investment in the United States, reflecting a tight capacity balance and a window for capacity expansion across the entire power equipment value chain.

Technological and compliance trends are reshaping competitive thresholds. On one hand, internal arc protection, online condition monitoring, digital operation and maintenance, and modular cabinet sections have become entry-level configurations for data centers and high-reliability industrial applications. On the other hand, the European F-gas Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/573) imposes phased restrictions on newly installed SF₆-containing switchgear (e.g., covering certain medium-voltage applications ≤24kV starting from 2026, with subsequent expansion to higher voltage classes), accelerating the commercialization of SF₆-free and alternative dielectric solutions.
