Scope of the Report
In-Situ Leach (ISL) mining is a method of extracting uranium directly from underground ore bodies without removing the overlying rock. In this process, a leaching solution, usually a mix of water, oxygen, and either an acid or alkaline substance, is injected into the uranium-bearing rock through a series of wells. The solution circulates through the ore, dissolving the uranium as it moves through the formation. The uranium-rich solution, or "pregnant solution," is then pumped back to the surface, where uranium is extracted through ion exchange, precipitation, or solvent extraction. ISL mining is considered more environmentally friendly than traditional mining methods because it causes less surface disturbance and generates minimal waste. However, it requires strict groundwater management to avoid contamination.
ISL has become a popular method for uranium extraction in suitable ore bodies, particularly in regions like the United States, Kazakhstan, and Australia.
Global key In-Situ Leach (ISL) Mining of Uranium players cover Cameco, Peninsula Energy, Kazatomprom, Orano, KATCO, etc.
