Scope of the Report

The global Collar Button Artificial Cornea market size is predicted to grow from US$ 667 million in 2025 to US$ 1,602 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13.6% from 2026 to 2032.

The button-type artificial cornea is a complex of human cornea and artificial cornea, designed to replace the natural cornea that is damaged or diseased due to various reasons (such as corneal transplant failure, limbal function failure, severe corneal vascularization, etc.). Corneal disease is the second largest blindness disease in the world. About 15% of corneal blind patients cannot successfully undergo human corneal donor transplantation due to high-risk rejection reactions. The button-type artificial cornea provides the only treatment option for such patients. The button-type artificial cornea was developed by Shi Weiyun's team. It was independently developed and produced according to the characteristics of the cornea and ocular surface structure of Chinese patients and has independent intellectual property rights. Its technical indicators, such as surface finish, spectral transmittance, resolution, etc., are superior to foreign artificial corneas. It is suitable for patients with severe corneal blindness such as corneal transplant failure, limbal function failure, and severe corneal vascularization. The button-type artificial cornea has been successfully implemented in clinical trials in many domestic hospitals, and the first batch of artificial corneal transplants and the first case in the northwest region have been completed in Xi'an People's Hospital (Xi'an Fourth Hospital), Shaanxi Eye Hospital and other hospitals.

The artificial cornea market is expanding and the demand is growing. This is mainly due to the low corneal donation rate in my country, which cannot meet the huge demand for corneal transplantation surgery, making artificial cornea an important substitute. After the patient is equipped with an artificial cornea, if he recovers well, he can achieve a visual acuity of 1.0. The button-type artificial cornea is independently developed by my country. It is synthesized from artificial materials, has completed relevant registration tests, and has completed in situ implantation tests in rabbit eyes. This product is developed and produced based on the characteristics of the cornea and ocular surface structure of Chinese patients, and can choose different focal lengths according to the different lengths of the patient's eye axis. Its surface finish, spectral transmittance, resolution and other physical and chemical indicators and optical indicators are better than the Boston type artificial cornea. The launch of the button-type artificial cornea marks a change in the situation of my country's artificial cornea products relying on imports, filling the gap in domestic artificial cornea research. The launch of this product is of great significance to alleviate the shortage of corneal donors and meet the treatment needs of more corneal blind patients. In the future, the button-type artificial cornea is expected to be used in more fields, such as battlefield bombings, chemical injuries to the eyes, and thermal burns.
