Dietary supplements, also known as nutritional or food supplements, are a specialized class of health and nutrition products, including over-the-counter (OTC) formulations. Dietary supplements can be vitamins, minerals, herbs or other plants, amino acids, metabolites, or combinations of these ingredients listed as dietary supplements. They can be consumed in the form of tablets, capsules, softgels, concentrates or extracts. Although consuming more than recommended amounts of micronutrients may not confer benefits in the general population, and some micronutrients, such as vitamin A, may have harmful effects. Rigorous research methods must be used to determine when micronutrient dietary supplements can have beneficial (including preventive) health effects. Particular attention must be paid to possible differences in micronutrient requirements at different life cycle stages. These stages include infancy (birth to 12 months), childhood (1-18 years), adulthood and old age (70 years and older).
Global key Food Supplements players cover Pfizer, Amway, Suntory, Glanbia, GSK, etc.
