Vista general
Scope of the Report
The global Fermented Soybean Meal (FSBM) market size is predicted to grow from US$ 177 million in 2025 to US$ 267 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2026 to 2032.
Fermented soybean meal (FSBM) is produced by inoculating standard soybean meal (SBM) with beneficial species of fungi and bacteria, primarily Aspergillus oryzae and Lactobacillus subtilis. This additional treatment improves the nutritional value of the resulting product. Fermentation may reduce or eliminate key anti-nutritional factors, such as lectins, trypsin inhibitors, allergens and non-digestible oligosaccharides, present in even heat-processed SBM, increase the concentration of protein, and improve digestibility and gut health. FSBM is produced in batches by submerging SBM in water or, more commonly, through a process known as solid-state fermentation, which inoculates a moistened SBM substrate containing between 45 and 50% moisture.
Soybeans are high in protein and have an excellent amino acid composition, meaning they contain all the essential amino acids that animals cannot synthesize themselves. After fermentation, animals can better utilize the protein, minerals, vitamins, and energy in soybeans. Soybeans contain several harmful substances called anti-nutritional factors (ANFs), which are particularly detrimental to young animals. Fermentation helps reduce these harmful compounds.
Market Opportunities and Driving Factors
On the policy front, the EU's long-term ban on growth-promoting antibiotics in feed and China's comprehensive ban on antibiotic additives in feed since 2020 have driven up demand for functional proteins with gut-friendly properties. On the economic front, feed companies are actively seeking alternative proteins and formula resilience in response to raw material fluctuations and the "soybean meal reduction and substitution" policy. On the biological front, fermentation can reduce key anti-nutritional factors and improve the performance of young animals, positioning it as a "functional ingredient" rather than simply a commodity.
Downstream Supply Chain
Upstream, oilseed crushing and protein deep-processing companies provide soybean meal and protein raw materials, and are continuously expanding their crushing and protein production capacity to ensure raw material continuity. In the midstream, specialized fermentation companies convert soybean meal into functional proteins: CJ BIO (Soytide), European Protein (EP200), Nutraferma (PepSoyGen), DaBomb Protein, and Chinese companies such as Shandong Hesheng, Taishan Shengluyuan, Shanghai Yuanyao, Guangdong Xipu, Genyuan Bio, and Shandong Jiurui have disclosed their capabilities or products on their respective websites. Downstream are feed companies and integrated farming groups for pigs, poultry, ruminants, and aquaculture, which are adopting fermented soybean meal to enhance gut health and reduce antibiotic dependence.
Market Segmentation Trends:
Swine: Digestibility and gut homeostasis are key considerations in weaning diets, and the functional properties of FSBM have been demonstrated in controlled trials.
Poultry: Replacing part of soybean meal with fermented protein in the early stages of chick development shows improved formulation performance.
Ruminants: Studies show that FSBM can regulate rumen microbiota and metabolic characteristics, supporting targeted addition in dairy cow systems.
Aquaculture: Industry and university trials are exploring the feasibility of partially replacing fishmeal with FSBM. In summary, young animals and aquaculture are scenarios where the value of "functional ingredients" is released more quickly, and this aligns with the standardization of antibiotic use.
Regional Trends
North America and Europe: The antibiotic-free and sustainable agenda continues, and the willingness to purchase functional proteins remains stable; meanwhile, upstream companies such as Louis Dreyfus are building new crushing facilities in the United States to strengthen the supply of feed soybeans for fermentation. China and Asia Pacific: Relevant authorities are promoting "soybean meal reduction and substitution" and "grain-saving diets," leaving policy space for alternative proteins; several domestic companies have publicly demonstrated their fermented soybean meal products and production line capabilities.
Latest Developments
September 26, 2024 - Louis Dreyfus broke ground on its first specialty feed protein production line in Tianjin. The line will use microbial fermentation technology to produce fermented soybean meal. Through the synergistic fermentation process of multiple probiotics, the protein content, palatability, and digestibility of the product will be improved, thereby improving animal health and increasing growth rate.

Systematic collection from 500+ verified sources including SEC filings, industry databases (Bloomberg, Statista, OECD), regulatory filings, trade publications, patent databases, and company annual reports. AI-assisted extraction identifies relevant data points across 10,000+ documents per report.
Dual-validation approach: bottom-up sizing aggregates segment-level production, consumption, and trade data; top-down sizing cross-validates against macroeconomic indicators and total addressable market estimates. Discrepancies >5% trigger analyst review.
Company profiles built from public financial disclosures, product launches, M&A activity, job postings (as capability proxies), and supply chain mapping. Market share estimates triangulated across revenue, capacity, and shipment data.
CAGR projections use time-series regression on 5-10 years of historical data, adjusted for identified demand drivers (technology adoption curves, regulatory catalysts, demographic shifts) and demand inhibitors (cost barriers, substitution risk). Scenario modeling covers base, optimistic, and conservative cases.
All quantitative outputs reviewed by a domain-specialist analyst before publication. Data triangulation requires minimum 3 independent sources for every key figure. Reports undergo a structured peer review against our 47-point quality checklist covering methodology, data citations, logical consistency, and formatting standards.
On-demand reports are generated at time of purchase, incorporating the most recent available data. Static reports are republished when underlying market conditions shift by >10% from baseline assumptions. Purchasers receive update notifications for 12 months.
