Vista general
Scope of the Report
The global Electric Motor Core market size is predicted to grow from US$ 16,120 million in 2025 to US$ 24,350 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.1% from 2026 to 2032.
Motor Core (Iron core or magnetic core) plays a pivotal role in the entire motor. It is used to increase the magnetic flux of the inductor coil and has achieved the maximum conversion of electromagnetic power. And the motor core is usually composed of a stator and a rotor. The stator and rotor cores of electrical machinery are manufactured using thin sheets stacked together in order to minimize eddy current losses. The laminations are bonded in order to create a stable core. A general distinction is made between techniques integrated into the punching process (interlocking, full-face bonding or spot bonding) and those downstream from the punching process (welding, clamping, conventional bonding). In fact, most motor manufacturers choose to buy Stamping dies and Laminations, and produce iron cores by themselves.
The electric motor core, comprising the stator and rotor core, is an essential magnetic component within electric motors. Its primary function is to provide a closed magnetic path for electromagnetic conversion, enabling efficient transformation of electrical energy into mechanical energy. Typically made from laminated silicon steel sheets, the core design minimizes eddy current and hysteresis losses while improving motor efficiency and torque density. As global industries transition toward electrification, the motor core has become a critical determinant of overall motor performance and energy efficiency.
The market for electric motor cores is experiencing robust growth, driven by several macro trends. The accelerating adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is the most significant factor, as traction motors demand high-performance cores capable of operating at higher frequencies with reduced energy losses. Additionally, industrial automation, smart appliances, and renewable energy systems are fueling demand for advanced, energy-efficient electric motors, which in turn stimulates the motor core market. Regulatory frameworks such as IE4 and IE5 efficiency standards across Europe, North America, and Asia are reinforcing this demand, compelling manufacturers to invest in high-grade materials and precision engineering solutions.
Technological development in the motor core segment focuses on three major areas: materials, processing, and design. Manufacturers are increasingly using high-grade non-oriented silicon steel and amorphous metals to reduce iron loss and improve magnetic permeability. Advanced manufacturing techniques, including precision stamping, laser cutting, and automated lamination stacking, are becoming mainstream to enhance dimensional accuracy and reduce scrap rates. Furthermore, the shift toward compact, high-efficiency motors for EVs and robotics has driven the adoption of thinner laminations, adhesive bonding techniques, and intelligent assembly lines.
The industry value chain for electric motor cores consists of upstream suppliers of electrical steel (including major producers like Nippon Steel, POSCO, and Baosteel), midstream manufacturers responsible for stamping and lamination, and downstream users such as EV motor makers, industrial motor OEMs, and household appliance companies. Market concentration is relatively high in the upstream silicon steel sector, while the midstream core manufacturing is fragmented, with increasing trends toward automation and vertical integration.
Looking forward, the global electric motor core market is projected to maintain double-digit growth over the next five years, primarily fueled by EV penetration, stricter energy-efficiency regulations, and the electrification of industrial and household sectors. Asia-Pacific, particularly China, will remain the dominant production and consumption hub due to its strong EV industry and expanding appliance manufacturing base. However, challenges persist, including raw material price volatility, supply chain constraints, and the need for continuous technological upgrades.
