Scope of the Report

The global Hydroxymethane market size is predicted to grow from US$ 51,316 million in 2025 to US$ 77,196 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.0% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2025, global Hydroxymethane production was 115.80 million MT, the global average market price was approximately 453 USD/MT, production capacity was 163.56 million MT, and the industry’s average gross margin was 19.3%.

The main upstream raw materials include natural gas, coal, biomass, coke oven gas, carbon dioxide, and others.

The main upstream suppliers include Shell, BP, TotalEnergies, CNPC, Sinopec, ExxonMobil, and others.

The downstream customers include BP, DuPont, Shell, LyondellBasell, Dow, SABIC, Sinopec, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Chevron Phillips Chemical, BASF, and others.

Hydroxymethane is composed of one methyl group and one hydroxyl group. At room temperature, Hydroxymethane is a colorless, volatile, and flammable liquid. It has strong polarity and good solubility, making it one of the basic organic chemical raw materials and an important energy chemical.

Hydroxymethane is mainly produced through routes using natural gas, coal, coke oven gas, biomass, and carbon dioxide hydrogenation. Among these, traditional Hydroxymethane production mainly uses natural gas or coal as raw materials. These feedstocks are first converted into synthesis gas, which is then catalytically synthesized into the final product.

In recent years, with the development of low-carbon fuels and green chemicals, green Hydroxymethane produced from biomass, green hydrogen, and captured carbon dioxide has gradually attracted attention.

Hydroxymethane is widely used in the production of formaldehyde, acetic acid, methyl tert-butyl ether, dimethyl ether, Hydroxymethane-to-olefins, biodiesel, methylamine, chloromethane, methyl methacrylate, and other chemical products. It can also be used as a fuel, marine fuel, fuel cell fuel, and gasoline blending component.

Global key Hydroxymethane players cover Methanex, CHN ENERGY Investment, Proman, China National Coal, Shandong Energy, etc.
