Scope of the Report

The global Roving for Fiber-reinforced Plastics market size is predicted to grow from US$ 7,661 million in 2025 to US$ 10,426 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.6% from 2026 to 2032.

Roving for fiber-reinforced plastics refers to continuous glass fiber rovings used as reinforcement in FRP/GFRP composites. It is designed for thermoset and thermoplastic resin systems such as unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy, polyurethane, PP, PA, PBT and PET. Key upstream materials include silica sand, pyrophyllite, limestone, boron minerals, soda ash, kaolin, alumina, silane coupling agents, film formers, lubricants, antistatic agents and resin-compatible sizing systems. It is processed through filament winding, pultrusion, weaving, knitting, spray-up, compression molding, LFT/GMT and SMC/BMC routes, serving pipes, tanks, construction profiles, automotive lightweight parts, wind blades, marine, industrial equipment, electrical insulation and sports goods.

In 2025, global roving for fiber-reinforced plastics production reached approximately 8.5 million tons, with an average global market price is $900 per ton.

From a global industry perspective, roving for fiber-reinforced plastics is one of the fundamental reinforcement materials in the FRP value chain. Direct roving, also called single-end roving, is more suitable for continuous processes such as pultrusion, filament winding, weaving and long-fiber thermoplastics; assembled roving, also called multi-end roving, is more suitable for SMC/BMC, spray-up, continuous panels and chopping-dispersion processes. Johns Manville states that direct roving for thermoset composites is used in pultrusion and woven fiberglass fabrics, with silane-based sizing for compatibility with UP, VE and epoxy resins; its direct roving for LFT is used to reinforce thermoplastic compounds such as PP and PA. 3B Fibreglass describes direct rovings as continuous filaments bonded into a single strand and wound onto a bobbin, suitable for filament winding, pultrusion, knitting and weaving, texturisation and long-fiber technologies.

In terms of industry trends, rovings for fiber-reinforced plastics are moving toward higher strength, more stable tex, faster wet-out, lower fuzz, fewer breaks, lower static, resin-specific sizing, continuous processing stability and stronger compatibility with automated molding. Traditional products focused mainly on linear density, tensile strength and price, while downstream users increasingly evaluate sizing formulation, resin-interface bonding, unwinding tension, chopping dispersion, filament-damage control, surface quality and batch consistency. For thermoset FRP, the key requirement is fast wet-out and stable laminate formation with UP, VE and epoxy resins. For thermoplastic FRP, the focus shifts toward fast impregnation, long-fiber retention and higher impact performance in LFT/D-LFT, tapes and thermoplastic sheets. Johns Manville also notes that direct roving for structural thermoplastics can be used to produce tapes, woven fabrics and non-crimp fabrics, with special sizing for compatibility with PP, PA or high-heat polymers.

The main growth drivers come from three areas. First, building materials, pipes, tanks, gratings, cooling towers, marine products, sanitary ware, automotive parts, wind turbine blades and industrial structural components continue to require lightweight, high-strength, corrosion-resistant and scalable FRP materials, supporting baseline demand for roving. Second, automotive lightweighting, larger wind turbine blades, infrastructure corrosion protection, electrical insulation and industrial equipment upgrades are pushing FRP products toward structural, higher-performance and longer-lifecycle applications, raising requirements for roving strength, wet-out speed, resin compatibility and processing stability. Third, downstream composite manufacturers increasingly focus on automation efficiency, mold turnover, defect control, product consistency and total cost competitiveness, turning roving for fiber-reinforced plastics from a general fiberglass reinforcement into a critical intermediate material affecting mechanical performance, surface quality, production efficiency and long-term reliability.
