Scope of the Report

The global Rubber Antioxidant MB market size is predicted to grow from US$ 48.72 million in 2025 to US$ 63.71 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.9% from 2026 to 2032.

Rubber antioxidant MB (also known as MBI; chemical name: 2-mercaptobenzimidazole; CAS No. 583-39-1) is a highly efficient, non-staining rubber anti-aging additive. It significantly retards the aging of rubber products caused by heat, oxygen, and other environmental factors; due to its non-discoloring and non-staining properties, it is widely used in the manufacture of transparent, white, and light-colored rubber products.

Upstream inputs primarily include o-phenylenediamine, carbon disulfide (or other sulfur-containing reactants), solvents, acid/alkali auxiliaries, and materials for refining and packaging. The production process essentially centers on the synthesis of the benzimidazole ring, mercaptanization, crystallization/refining, and drying/granulation. O-phenylenediamine determines the cost of the aromatic heterocyclic backbone; sulfur-containing raw materials dictate the mercapto structure and the burden of environmental compliance; and solvents, acids/alkalis, and mother liquor recovery influence wastewater management, odor control, and yield.

In 2025, global sales volume is approximately 8,300 metric tons, with a prevailing ex-factory price of around US$6,000 per ton; major manufacturers in the industry report gross profit margins in the range of 22%–35%.

Rubber antioxidant MB is classified as a non-staining antioxidant; while its demand volume is significantly lower than that of high-volume antioxidants like 6PPD and TMQ, it enjoys steady demand in applications such as light-colored rubber, transparent products, latex goods, wire and cable, and low-staining industrial rubber formulations. Industry growth is primarily driven by the upgrading of non-tire rubber products, rising demand for low-staining antioxidants in latex and consumer rubber goods, and the need to mitigate thermal-oxidative aging, static aging, and metal-ion-catalyzed aging. Its limitations lie in its relatively modest standalone protective capability—particularly its weaker resistance to dynamic ozone cracking compared to PPD-class antioxidants—often necessitating combination use with amine, phenolic, or sulfur-containing antioxidants. Additionally, with substantial supply originating from China and India, there is intense price competition for standard powder products.
