Scope of the Report

The global Sandalwood Oil market size is predicted to grow from US$ 217 million in 2025 to US$ 383 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.8% from 2026 to 2032.

Sandalwood, of the genus Santalum, is a genus of woody flowering trees and plants. Most species are semi-parasitic and several produce a highly aromatic wood. The most common species are Indian sandalwood (Santalum album) and Australian sandalwood (Santalum spicatum), although other species are used for their scent as well. The oil that distilled from eucarya spicata species, amyris and so on is not belonging to the Sandalwood Oil. Different sandalwood species are indigenous to India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh (S. album), and Australia (S. spicatum and S. lanceolatum), as well as to several Pacific Islands such as Hawaii (S. ellipticum), Fiji and Tonga (S. yasi), Papua New Guinea (S. macgregorii), Vanuatu and New Caledonia (S. austrocaledonicum) and French Polynesia (S. insulare). Traditionally, sandalwood is wild-harvested, since cultivation is difficult. Because of over- and illegal harvesting, supplies of sandalwood, especially Indian sandalwood, have decreased considerably over the last 10-15 years. Consequently, efforts to cultivate sandalwood have increased; Australia now has several plantations of Indian sandalwood trees.

Market Drivers

The global sandalwood oil market is influenced by a unique mix of cultural, economic, and regulatory factors:

A. Soaring Demand from Fragrance & Personal Care

Premium Perfumery: Remains the dominant driver. Sandalwood oil is a cornerstone of luxury oriental, woody, and fougère fragrance families due to its complex, long-lasting dry-down scent. Its natural status is irreplaceable by synthetics in high-end perfumes.

Clean Beauty & Natural Personal Care: The global shift towards natural, botanical, and sustainably sourced ingredients in skincare, soaps, and lotions fuels demand for authentic sandalwood oil as a premium additive.

B. Growth in Wellness, Aromatherapy, and Mental Health Focus

Aromatherapy: Valued for its calming, grounding, and meditative properties. Used in diffusers, massage oils, and meditation blends to alleviate anxiety and promote mental clarity.

Wellness Industry Expansion: The integration of aromatherapy into spas, yoga studios, and wellness retreats creates steady B2B demand.
