Scope of the Report

The global Carnation Oil market size is predicted to grow from US$ 816 million in 2025 to US$ 1,155 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.2% from 2026 to 2032.

Global sales of carnation oil reached 216 tons in 2025, with an average price of US$3,852 per kilogram.

Carnation essential oil or carnation absolute, is a slightly viscous liquid with a strong rich, honey-sweet, spicy and floral herbaceous aroma. It is obtained from the flowers by the process known as solvent extraction method.

Carnation essential oil is made from the blooming flowers of Dianthus caryophyllus L. (Caryophyllaceae family), primarily produced in Grasse, France; Morocco; Egypt; and Yunnan, China. Because the flowers contain extremely low levels of essential oil (0.01–0.03%), 5–6 tons of flowers are needed to produce 1 kg of absolute. The purchase price of flowers fluctuates seasonally between 8–15 RMB/kg, with raw material costs accounting for 65–70% of the ex-factory price. Processing involves solvent extraction (pentane/hexane) to obtain an extract, followed by alcohol dewaxing, concentration, and filtration. Solvent recovery and testing account for 20–25% of energy consumption. Therefore, a 10% fluctuation in flower prices directly translates to approximately 7% in the absolute price. Furthermore, the 40–60% premium for traditional Grasse varieties further increases the cost of high-end products.
