Scope of the Report

The global Dissolvable Microneedle Transdermal Drug Delivery Technology market size is predicted to grow from US$ 151 million in 2025 to US$ 257 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.1% from 2026 to 2032.

In 2024, the global production capacity of Dissolvable Microneedle Transdermal Drug Delivery Technology will be nearly 10 billion pieces, with an average selling price of US$14.28 per thousand pieces and a gross profit margin of approximately 46%. Bioqinglam's production line can produce 100,000 pieces per day; Beijing CAS Microneedle TecBeijing CAS Microneedle Technology, Ltd.hnology, Ltd.'s annual production capacity is as high as 150 million pieces. The simple method for making soluble microneedles involves: ① laser drilling to create a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) mold of the desired size; ② pouring a sodium hyaluronate (HA) solution of appropriate concentration into the mold; ③ vacuum removal of excess solution; and ④ drying and demolding to obtain the microneedles. Dissolvable microneedles are microscopic needles made from various stratum corneum-penetrating materials, with a length of 25-2000 μm, a base diameter of 50-300 μm, and a tip diameter of 1-30 μm. These needles are regularly arranged on a patch measuring 1-2 cm², representing a new type of transdermal drug delivery formulation. The downstream market for soluble microneedle transdermal drug delivery technology includes pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and skincare product R&D companies.

Development History:

Microneedles are a novel transdermal drug delivery technology. Unlike conventional drug delivery methods (muscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections), microneedles are less likely to stimulate nerve endings and produce little or no pain. Compared to traditional subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular drug delivery, microneedles can improve patient compliance, reduce the burden on healthcare professionals, and enhance drug safety and effectiveness. However, due to the uncontrollable mechanical strength of solid microneedles, some degree of pain and bleeding can still occur during use, and the risk of needle breakage is unavoidable. With the continuous advancement of polymer technology, dissolvable microneedles have emerged, effectively addressing the challenges of solid microneedles. Compared to other types of microneedles, dissolvable microneedles offer advantages such as low production cost, wide application range, no sharp waste residue, and easier control of drug release. Dissolving microneedles offer high biocompatibility, dynamic microcrystal response, and instant dissolution upon contact with areas of high water content. Dissolution also eliminates the foreign body sensation. The microcrystals have controllable mechanical strength and are painless and bleeding-free, achieving both safety and efficacy. Dissolving microneedles encapsulate the active ingredients and drugs to be delivered within microneedles made of polymer materials. These polymer materials maintain their shape well in air and dissolve upon contact with high-water-content skin layers, releasing the encapsulated ingredients to achieve their intended effect. Therefore, soluble microneedles offer the advantages of being truly painless, bleeding-free, and infection-free, independent of medical personnel. They also possess high biocompatibility, dynamic response, and instant dissolution upon contact with areas of high water content.

Advantages:

As a novel transdermal drug delivery method, soluble microcarrier painless transdermal drug delivery technology combines the advantages of both subcutaneous injection and traditional transdermal drug delivery. It overcomes the limitation of traditional transdermal patches, which can only deliver small-molecule drugs, and enables precise and painless treatment of diseases. The emergence of soluble microneedle technology addresses the challenge of efficient transdermal absorption of large-molecule drugs. Compared to other microneedle technologies, soluble microneedles offer the following advantages: ① Biodegradable materials, resulting in low production costs; ② High biocompatibility, high drug loading capacity, and enhanced safety; ③ Dissolves within the skin after penetration; and ④ In the early stages of industrialization, the market potential is enormous.

Global Trends:

In recent years, research on the application of soluble microneedle technology in the medical field has been quite active. For example, Georgia Tech is researching vaccine bandages and contraceptive patches, developing polio and measles vaccine patches for low- and middle-income countries, and researching microneedle patches for migraine anesthesia. In Japan and South Korea, this technology has been primarily applied to beauty products, as a major pain point in this field has long been the inability of active ingredients, particularly large molecules like hyaluronic acid, collagen, and peptides, to be truly absorbed through the skin. This is because the skin is a complex organ, with its thickness and layers, providing a 180-degree barrier to protecting human tissue from the external environment, shouldering the crucial responsibility of protecting the body from foreign intrusions and harm. The stratum corneum barrier of the skin is the body's first line of immune defense.
