Vue d'ensemble

Scope of the Report

The global Plant Pesticide market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1,606 million in 2025 to US$ 2,566 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.1% from 2026 to 2032.

Global sales of plant pesticides reached 160,000 tons in 2025, with an average price of US$10,236 per ton.

Plant Pesticide is naturally occurring chemicals (insect toxins) extracted or derived from plants or minerals. They are also called natural insecticides. Organic gardeners will choose these insecticides, in some cases, over synthetic organic materials.

The supply of raw materials for plant pesticides exhibits significant regional dependence and seasonality, resulting in a highly variable cost structure depending on the variety. For tropical varieties such as azadirachtin, raw material costs account for 50-60% of the total cost. India has 25 million azadirachtin trees, providing a relatively stable supply of raw materials, but the extraction rate is extremely low (0.3%-0.5%), requiring approximately 200-300 kg of seeds to extract 1 kg of azadirachtin, and necessitating complex solvent extraction and purification processes. For pyrethrum, raw material costs account for as much as 60-70%, with a global annual production of only 8,000 tons and demand exceeding 21,000 tons, resulting in a severe supply-demand gap. Kenya is the main production area, with dried flower purchase prices around 13,000 yuan/ton, and manual harvesting during peak bloom is required, accounting for 25-30% of labor costs. For rotenone, the raw material comes from rotenone roots in Southeast Asia, accounting for 45-55% of costs, with a relatively high extraction rate of 2%-5%, but the raw material requires a 2-3 year growth period, resulting in a long resource cycle. In terms of processing costs, steam distillation (pyrethrum) accounts for 20-25% of energy consumption, solvent extraction (azapine) solvent recovery costs account for 15-20%, and supercritical CO₂ extraction equipment requires large investments but yields high product purity. Quality control and testing costs account for 10-15%, requiring HPLC and GC-MS to ensure the content of active ingredients (e.g., azapine ≥ 0.3%, matrine ≥ 0.5%) and to detect solvent residues. Overall, plant-based pesticides belong to a category characterized by mid-to-high prices, strong raw material constraints, and low extraction rates. Their cost structure is influenced by multiple factors, including the sustainability of wild resources, planting cycles, extraction process efficiency, and global supply and demand. Scarce varieties such as pyrethroids can be several to tens of times more expensive than chemical pesticides.
