Vue d'ensemble
Scope of the Report
The global PAN Fiber market size is predicted to grow from US$ 8,181 million in 2025 to US$ 10,067 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.0% from 2026 to 2032.
Global polyacrylonitrile fiber sales reached 3.88 million tons in 2025, with an average price of US$2,153 per ton.
Polyacrylonitrile fiber, also known as acrylic fiber, is a synthetic fiber produced by wet spinning or dry spinning of an acrylonitrile copolymer (usually with the addition of a second monomer such as methyl acrylate and a third monomer such as itaconic acid or sodium propylene sulfonate) containing ≥85% acrylonitrile. It is white, crimped, fluffy, and soft to the touch, resembling wool, hence the name "synthetic wool." Key properties include: good elasticity (65% resilience at 20% elongation), 15% higher warmth retention than wool, excellent sun resistance (strength decreases by only 20% after one year of outdoor exposure), and resistance to acids and oxidants but poor alkali resistance.
The supply of raw materials for polyacrylonitrile fiber exhibits significant dependence on petrochemicals and economies of scale, resulting in a large variation in its cost structure depending on the production process and product grade. Raw material costs account for 65-70% of total costs, with acrylonitrile monomer accounting for the largest share (approximately 50-55%). Acrylonitrile prices are directly affected by fluctuations in oil and natural gas prices, with an average price of approximately 12,000-15,000 yuan/ton in 2024. Second/third monomers (methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, itaconic acid, sodium propylene sulfonate, etc.) account for 10-15%. Solvents (DMF, DMSO, etc.) account for 5-10%. Wet spinning uses inorganic solvents (NaSCN, ZnCl₂ aqueous solution) which are less expensive, while dry spinning uses organic solvents (DMF) which are more expensive but produce better fiber quality. Energy and equipment costs account for 15-20%. Polymerization reactions require precise control of temperature (60-80℃) and stirring speed, and the spinning process requires high-temperature steam drawing and drying, resulting in high energy consumption. It is worth noting that leading companies such as Jilin Chemical Fiber have reduced production costs to the lowest level in the industry through large-scale production and technological innovation, and their 530,000-ton capacity has a significant scale effect. Processing and manufacturing costs account for approximately 10-15%, including multiple processes such as polymerization, monomer removal, defoaming, spinning, coagulation, washing, stretching, oiling, crimping, cutting, drying, and heat setting. Among these, spinning speed and coagulation bath conditions directly affect the fiber cross-sectional shape and mechanical properties. Differentiated fibers (anti-pilling, flame retardant, high shrinkage, etc.) require additional modifiers or special processes, increasing costs by 10%-30%. Quality control and testing costs account for 5-10%, requiring testing of indicators such as molecular weight distribution, fiber fineness (dtex), strength (cN/dtex), elongation at break, moisture regain, and dyeing performance. Overall, polyacrylonitrile fiber is a mid-priced synthetic fiber product with significant economies of scale and high differentiated added value. Its cost structure is influenced by multiple factors, including acrylonitrile price fluctuations, energy costs, solvent recovery efficiency, and the degree of differentiated modification. China, leveraging the production capacity advantage of leading companies like Jilin Chemical Fiber (accounting for over 40% of the global market) and its complete petrochemical industry chain, holds a dominant position in the global market. However, it still lags behind international giants like Toray Industries and Mitsubishi Chemical in high-end differentiated products (such as carbon fiber precursor and ultrafine denier fiber).

Systematic collection from 500+ verified sources including SEC filings, industry databases (Bloomberg, Statista, OECD), regulatory filings, trade publications, patent databases, and company annual reports. AI-assisted extraction identifies relevant data points across 10,000+ documents per report.
Dual-validation approach: bottom-up sizing aggregates segment-level production, consumption, and trade data; top-down sizing cross-validates against macroeconomic indicators and total addressable market estimates. Discrepancies >5% trigger analyst review.
Company profiles built from public financial disclosures, product launches, M&A activity, job postings (as capability proxies), and supply chain mapping. Market share estimates triangulated across revenue, capacity, and shipment data.
CAGR projections use time-series regression on 5-10 years of historical data, adjusted for identified demand drivers (technology adoption curves, regulatory catalysts, demographic shifts) and demand inhibitors (cost barriers, substitution risk). Scenario modeling covers base, optimistic, and conservative cases.
All quantitative outputs reviewed by a domain-specialist analyst before publication. Data triangulation requires minimum 3 independent sources for every key figure. Reports undergo a structured peer review against our 47-point quality checklist covering methodology, data citations, logical consistency, and formatting standards.
On-demand reports are generated at time of purchase, incorporating the most recent available data. Static reports are republished when underlying market conditions shift by >10% from baseline assumptions. Purchasers receive update notifications for 12 months.
