Scope of the Report

Ultrapure water is produced by removing impurities from drinking, river or process water, which contains virtually no impurities other than hydrogen ions and hydroxides, to meet high quality standards, including >18.2MΩ-cm (18.2 Mohm) resistivity and other parameters down to parts per trillion, such as Selective Contaminant Extraction (SCE) and RO Infinity (ROI), combined with Electrodeionization (EDI) in the makeup, primary and polishing stages, to reliably produce ultrapure water.

Ultrapure water is widely used in semiconductor equipment production for all wet processing operations, including wafer cleaning, etching or polishing. More advanced techniques use ultrapure water for immersion lithography. Therefore, the purity of ultrapure water is critical to the semiconductor manufacturing process because it is in direct contact with the silicon wafers. Organic matter (TOC), particulate matter, bacteria, metals, and anions are other major impurities that affect product yield. Ultrapure water is mainly used for cleaning silicon wafers and semiconductor materials, preparing plating solutions, cooling equipment, oxidation of silicon wafers, etc.By using ultrapure water to clean the wafers between each step, the highest cleanliness standards can be maintained and semiconductor productivity can be maximized.

The preparation of ultrapure water relies more on ultrapure water equipment systems. The main equipment includes pretreatment equipment, reverse osmosis equipment, post-treatment equipment, cleaning equipment, etc.

Ultrapure water used in the semiconductor industry is usually not easy to store and will affect the purity of the water (such as TOC, particulate matter, etc.). Most of them will not be directly supplied separately. In this case, semiconductor factories are generally equipped with special ultrapure water equipment to facilitate timely use and maintain the purity of water to the greatest extent.

Globally, semiconductor ultrapure water system companies are mainly distributed in Japan, Europe and China. Among them, the market leaders are mainly Japanese Kurita Industries, Organo and Nomura, and the top 3 companies account for more than 80%.

Ultrapure water is a solvent that is very important in semiconductor manufacturing. Every semiconductor factory, from advanced R&D centers to large-scale production lines, relies on this ultrapure water that has almost all impurities removed to ensure the purity and accuracy of the chip manufacturing process. As the requirements for advanced semiconductor processes increase, the demand for ultrapure water will gradually increase.
