Scope of the Report

The global Azalea Acid market size is predicted to grow from US$ 132 million in 2025 to US$ 176 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.9% from 2026 to 2032.

Azelaic acid, scientifically known as azelaic acid (AZA), is a saturated straight-chain dicarboxylic acid containing nine carbon atoms (molecular formula: HOOC-(CH₂)₇-COOH, CAS number: 123-99-9). It was mistakenly translated as "azalea acid" in the past due to its similarity to the azalea flower, but it has no relation to azaleas whatsoever.

Azelaic acid is a white to slightly yellow crystalline powder with a melting point of 98-103°C and a boiling point of 286°C (100 mmHg). It is water-soluble at 2.4 g/L (20°C) and readily soluble in hot water and ethanol. It possesses both water and weak lipid solubility, is mild and low in irritation, and is suitable for various skin types.

Azelaic acid has effects such as acne treatment, anti-inflammatory properties, skin whitening and fading of dark spots, and improvement of the skin barrier.

The core upstream raw materials for azelaic acid are divided into two main categories: natural oil-based (castor oil, oleic acid) and petrochemical-based (cyclononanone). Auxiliary materials include oxidants, solvents/catalysts, etc. The midstream is the core link connecting raw materials and applications. The core process includes synthesis reaction, neutralization and separation, refining and purification, and finished product preparation. Based on purity and application, it is divided into three grades: industrial grade, pharmaceutical grade, and daily chemical grade.

In 2025, global azelaic acid sales volume was 9921.3 tons, with a production capacity of approximately 12400 tons, an average selling price of US$13.56/kg, and an average gross profit margin of 18%-22%.

Global key Azalea Acid players cover BASF, Emery Oleochemicals, Matrica SpA, Croda, Langhui Petrochemical, etc.
