Overzicht

Scope of the Report

The global Perfluorobutyl Ethanol market size is predicted to grow from US$ 18.16 million in 2025 to US$ 24.64 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.3% from 2026 to 2032.

Perfluorobutyl ethanol (CAS 2043-47-2) is most commonly identified as 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorohexan-1-ol, i.e., 4:2 fluorotelomer alcohol (4:2 FTOH). Structurally it can be written as C4F9CH2CH2OH (linear formula often shown as CF3(CF2)3(CH2)2OH), meaning a perfluorobutyl “tail” (C4F9–) connected through a two-carbon ethyl spacer to a terminal alcohol group, making it a reactive fluorinated building block and a volatile fluorotelomer alcohol.

Upstream, fluorotelomer alcohols can be produced industrially by telomerization of pentafluoroethyl iodide with tetrafluoroethylene to form perfluoroalkyl iodides, followed by ethylene addition to give fluorotelomer iodides, and then hydrolysis (iodide-to-hydroxyl conversion) to yield 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluoroalkan-1-ols such as 4:2 FTOH. Downstream, 4:2 FTOH is mainly used as an intermediate/raw material in fluorotelomer chemistry—supporting the synthesis of fluorotelomer acrylates/urethanes and side-chain fluorinated polymer (SCFP) formulations used for surface-protection coatings, and it is also associated with the synthesis chain of phosphate ester derivatives (e.g., PAPs).

In 2025, global sales of perfluorobutyl ethanol reached approximately 189 tons, with an average global market price of around US$ 98/kg. Production capacity varies significantly among manufacturers, with gross profit margins ranging from approximately 20% to 40%.

Global key Perfluorobutyl Ethanol players cover Daikin Industries, DuPont, Changhong Chemical, Fuxin Ruifeng Fluorine Chemical, Jiangxi Time Pharmaceutical, etc.
