Scope of the Report

The global Silicon Oxide (SiOx) Precursor market size is predicted to grow from US$ 261 million in 2025 to US$ 2,402 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 37.7% from 2026 to 2032.

Traditionally, silicon dioxide is produced by mixing silicon and silicon dioxide in the same molar ratio, then grinding into micron-sized powder (the smaller the particles, the more uniform the mixing, and the closer the particles are to each other, the more favorable the reaction), and then heating to a temperature above 1000°C under negative pressure for disproportionation reaction. The higher the temperature, the faster the reaction. The silicon dioxide formed in this way overflows in the form of vapor and is brought to a place with lower pressure and temperature and condensed into silicon dioxide solid. Where x is not strictly equal to one.

Silicon dioxide (SiOx, 0<x<2) is an inorganic compound and an incomplete oxide of Si. SiOx is dark brown or brownish yellow at room temperature and pressure, is insoluble in water, and will be oxidized to silicon dioxide in the air. In addition to being used as negative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries, SiOx materials can also be used as raw materials for synthesizing fine ceramic materials, or as a semiconductor material, protective film for optical instruments, etc.

As people's requirements for the specific energy of lithium-ion batteries continue to increase, the application of silicon negative electrode materials has become an unstoppable trend. Silicon oxide is a new type of negative electrode material suitable for lithium-ion batteries. It has attracted widespread attention due to its high theoretical specific capacity, low lithium storage reaction voltage platform, good volume effect and excellent cycle performance.

Silicon-based negative electrodes have high energy density and good safety, and are regarded as the most promising next-generation lithium-ion battery negative electrode materials. With the gradual increase in the volume of cylindrical batteries and the increasing maturity of superimposed porous silicon-carbon technology, the demand for silicon-based negative electrode materials will grow rapidly in the next 3-5 years, which will promote the production of upstream silicon oxide materials. Governments and local governments have introduced policies and industrial policies to support the development of new energy and new materials industries, providing a good policy environment and market opportunities for the silicon oxide materials industry.
