Scope of the Report

The global One-side Glazed Kraft Paper market size is predicted to grow from US$ 3,269 million in 2025 to US$ 4,404 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.4% from 2026 to 2032.

One-side glazed kraft paper is a kraft paper made mainly from unbleached or bleached sulfate wood pulp, recycled fiber or blended pulp. It is dried and glazed on a large MG cylinder, creating one smooth, glossy and printable side while the reverse side remains relatively rough and fibrous. It combines strength, stiffness, tear resistance, bag-making performance, coatability, laminating compatibility and printability, and is widely used in food packaging, shopping bags, wrapping paper, laminate base paper, coating base paper, industrial packaging and branded retail packaging.

The upstream supply chain includes softwood pulp, hardwood pulp, unbleached/bleached kraft pulp, recycled fiber, starch, sizing agents, wet-strength agents, grease-resistant additives, water-based barrier coatings, PE/PLA/PBAT coating or laminating materials, inks, adhesives and energy. Midstream processes include pulping, refining, papermaking, MG-cylinder glazing, calendering, coating, lamination, slitting, printing and bag converting. Downstream applications include food packaging, shopping bags, gift bags, takeaway bags, wrapping paper, medical and hygiene packaging, flexible laminates, coating base paper, industrial packaging and branded retail packaging.

In 2025, global one-side glazed kraft paper production reached approximately 3 million tons, with an average global market price is $1,100 per ton.

One-side glazed kraft paper is a kraft-based paper in which one side is finished to achieve higher smoothness and gloss through a Yankee dryer or similar machine-glazing process, while the reverse side retains a more natural fibrous surface, mainly serving food packaging, retail bags, takeaway bags, labels, wrapping paper, coating or lamination base paper and selected paper-based plastic-replacement applications. From a global industry perspective, one-side glazed kraft paper has evolved from a traditional packaging paper into a functional paper-based material that combines packaging strength, surface appearance and downstream converting adaptability. The glazed side supports printing, brand presentation and visual quality, while the reverse side is suitable for coating, lamination, bonding or heat-seal processing. As a result, it is widely used in food bags, bakery packaging, fast-food takeaway packaging, shopping bags, consumer goods packaging and light industrial packaging. As packaging shifts from basic protection toward a broader combination of protection, presentation, sustainability and processing efficiency, the role of one-side glazed kraft paper is expanding from ordinary bags and wrapping papers toward functional coated papers, lower-plastic laminated packaging, heat-sealable papers and recyclable paper-based packaging solutions.

In terms of industry trends, one-side glazed kraft paper is moving toward higher strength at lower grammage, food-grade performance, higher surface smoothness, printability, coatability, heat-sealability, recyclability and reduced-plastic packaging. Traditional one-side glazed papers focused mainly on gloss and basic strength, while current market demand places more emphasis on sheet strength, surface uniformity, print reproduction and converting stability at lower basis weight. For food and takeaway packaging, product upgrades focus on grease resistance, moisture resistance, low odor, low migration, food-contact safety and heat-seal compatibility. For retail and branded packaging, the priorities are visual appearance, stiffness, tactile quality, colour stability and print performance. For coating and lamination base papers, the focus shifts to surface flatness, coating uniformity, reel runnability and recyclable barrier solutions.

The main growth drivers come from three areas. First, growth in takeaway food, bakery packaging, retail paper bags, lightweight e-commerce packaging and consumer goods packaging is increasing demand for one-side glazed kraft paper that combines strength, appearance and converting performance. Second, the global packaging industry is continuing to shift toward paper-based, recyclable and lower-plastic solutions, creating more opportunities for this paper to replace selected plastic bags, plastic films, ordinary wrapping papers and conventional laminated packaging. Third, brand owners and packaging converters are placing greater emphasis on packaging appearance, material lightweighting, converting efficiency and sustainability image, pushing products toward higher strength at lower grammage, functional coating, food safety and broader application adaptability.
