Food grade oat β - glucan is a soluble dietary fiber component extracted and purified from oats. Its chemical essence is a polysaccharide formed by the connection of glucose units through β - tri - and β - tetraglycosidic bonds. It has strong water absorption and gelling abilities, and can form a viscous solution in the digestive tract, which helps to reduce postprandial blood glucose reactions and assist in regulating blood lipid and cholesterol levels. Therefore, it is often used as a functional ingredient in oat drinks, dairy and plant-based products, baking and cereal products, meal replacements and nutritional supplements, etc; Food grade emphasizes its compliance with food regulations and quality standards, such as stable content and viscosity indicators, compliance with microbiological, heavy metal, and pesticide residue control standards, and compatibility with dissolution, dispersion, and flavor suitable for food processing. In 2025, global Food Grade Oat β-Glucan production reached approximately 15.56 K MT, with an average global market price of around US$ 25,639 per MT.
The annual production capacity of food grade oat β - glucan is 25 K MT, with a gross profit margin of about 30%.
The upstream mainly comes from the lanolin industry chain and the supply of alcohols and auxiliary materials. Key inputs include lanolin or lanolin fatty acid fractions, isopropanol, esterification catalysts and neutralizers, antioxidants and stabilizers, decolorization adsorption materials, filtration media, as well as packaging containers and label materials. At the same time, it also relies on utilities such as steam, electricity, cooling water, and vacuum systems.
The downstream mainly enters the personal care and cosmetics formula system, which is used as a skin moisturizer and skin feeling improver for face cream lotion, sunscreen and makeup cream, lip care and repair cream, hair conditioner and hair oil styling products. The customer types include formula factories, daily-use chemical brands and raw material distribution channels. The demand is closely related to the trend of high-end skin care, sensitive muscle and low-flavor formula, as well as the requirements for traceability and compliance documents.
The cost of raw materials usually accounts for 55% to 75% of the total cost, manufacturing expenses account for about 10% to 18%, quality and compliance and testing account for about 5% to 12%, packaging and logistics account for about 4% to 10%, and management and sales account for about 5% to 10%.
